The Role
I have had a wonderful internship experience at BDO.
Fully valued, and from day 1 was involved and made significant contributions to client work.
Fully supported with both an allotted counselling manager, with organised progress and appraisal meetings; and job managers who took time to engage and guide through the work set.
Work begins at 9.30 and finishes at 5.30. You can make it as busy as you want it to be, as there is always jobs to do for different managers. However, there are days when you can relax and work through jobs at your own pace, which really promotes an inclusive culture.
I contributed to real audit work, I engaged with clients and made a real difference. I was given enough responsibility to produce work independently to a deadline.
A lot of the training received throughout the internship has been very audit specific, so highly valuable for any career progression in audit. However, the understanding I have gained of how businesses work in the real word is invaluable, plus my understanding of annual reports and financial statements has improved tremendously, which is an extremely valuable skill and transferable to any job in finance.
The Company
Inclusive and supportive.
Extremely well organised and structured as expected from a leading accountancy firm
1 week spent in Birmingham on a BDO run intensive course in audit, and constant ad hoc job-specific training provided by job managers and grads whilst working.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Very, will look to secure a place on the grad scheme!
The Culture
Extremely, there was a week spent in Birmingham on training with the rest of the interns from across the country, where social events were organised every night. There was a national BDO 5-aside tournament in Liverpool, which many of the interns took part and went to watch. Mid way through the internship my department had a summer party, and on the final two days of the internship, all of the interns from across the country came down to London for two days of activities and social events.
Being based in central London, socialising is expensive, but the many events organised by BDO throughout the internship were fully paid for by the company.
