The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year with Hays, every day was different and the amount I learnt within the year was astonishing.
My colleagues made sure that I was treated the same as other members of the team and not treated differently as I was an intern. They were always friendly and we all got on well.
My managers and directors were always very supportive and sat me down monthly to review how I was getting on and to set new targets.
Every day was a busy day, the days would fly by and there wasn't a moment that I was sat there with nothing to do. Whether I was making calls, interviewing candidates or out on client meetings.
I was given a lot of responsibility, I ran my own desk, how successful and how much money I made on it was down to me, which I really liked. It made me feel as if I was important and part of the team, and not just there as an 'intern'.
I developed a lot more skills than I originally thought I would, interviewing candidates was probably the key skill I learnt as I feel I am much more prepared for any interviews I attend after University. I also feel a lot more confident and organised within myself.
The Company
The atmosphere was always busy and lively, everyone was on the phone, the bell was ringing when someone confirmed a placement and everyone would clap. It was very much a work hard play hard situation, if consultants worked hard and did well then they were rewarded. Every month we had a 'wrap up' where the previous month was reviewed and if the office had done well we would go out and celebrate.
The placement was organised well, it even included 4 days away from the office in London where we met with other interns and had our training. This was really good and set us up well for the year.
I received my training and was constantly helped to better myself and develop my learning.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
If you get on well during your placement year then the managers are very keen to offer you a role after University. I have even stayed on past my year placement and am working through the summer.
The Culture
Yes, there was always something going on on Friday's and every month something was organised.
The office is based in the centre of Bristol, so lots was always going on, the cost of living was pretty average really.
It was always lively and there was never a time when something wasn't going on.
