The Role
Generally, the internship was very interesting in terms of the various possibilities to get insight into the business. However, my specific role has not been as captivating as other areas in the bank.
My colleagues were incredibly friendly and helpful, although they were always really busy.
If I had questions I could always approach my manager or other colleagues. Due to the fact, that everyone on my team was very busy, my manager was not as available as I would have liked it. I would have preferred to have a bit more support.
The amount of work was really fluctuating. Occasionally, I was very busy, but especially during the first couple of weeks I did not have that much work to do.
I was not given a lot of responsibility. The work I was given, was rather supplementary to generate improvement in the working process of the rest of the team.
This internship will certainly help me in my further career. I acquired a lot of technical skills but even more important I got exposed to a great variety of different people, which I interacted with. Now I am much more confident in my interpersonal communication skills.
The Company
I really enjoyed the working atmosphere. I also think that this working environment which is characterized by friendly, helpful and respectful contact with each other, is very unique to Barclays. Although everyone is very busy, people still are very approachable and happy to help you out.
The overall internship program was very well organized. Various training and speaker sessions have been set up, and in general, there have not been major problems.
During the internship, various training sessions and speaker sessions have been set up. Especially the speaker sessions gave a really good insight into the different path in life one can take to reach the goal of working in a specific position. Also a great variety of online training material was available.

Internal mobility seems to be very high, so I consider employment prospects to be very good.
The Culture
Generally, all the interns got along with each other. Due to the fact that there were a lot of interns and most people have been very busy during their internship, social events were rare
Living expenses were higher than I am used to but still relatively affordable. Social events were rare, so I am not able to judge the cost of socializing.
I think there are a lot of possibilities to go out at nighttime. Even in the direct neighborhood of my working area, there were a couple of bars to go for drinks after work.
If you are willing to get involved, you would always be able to find an activity to take part in.
