The Role
The internship programme at Barclays enabled me not only to get to know my specific business area but also other areas within the bank. This has made me get an understanding of how banks work which helped me to discover what I really want to do in the banking industry.
Not only my team but also people from other teams have been respectful to me at all times and have made me feel that the work I was doing was valuable to them and to the firm.
My manager and my other colleagues where always there to answer any questions I had although at the same time they gave me enough space for me to think about the problem and solve it by myself, which I really value.
I found that the flow of work was quite volatile. Whereas some days I had to stay until late to finish multiple tasks, other days we did not have much work to do
I was gradually given more and more responsibility and getting more difficult and relevant tasks
I cannot say for sure yet but I am sure that the skills I got from doing the analyses I have carried out in my internship will come handy when completing my final year project
The Company
Extremely friendly. People brought treats (cakes, sweets, chocolates...) every now and then for everybody to enjoy. Furthermore, senior people are really approachable.
