The Role
I did enjoy my internship, I liked the exposure I had to the investment banking business and the fact that I developed my programming skills quite a lot.
From the first week I felt like I was part of the family and like I have been in this team forever.
I think everybody was extremely helpful. I had access to a lot of online learning resources, but more importantly anytime I had a question or I needed help everybody was very happy to help me.
Some days more busy than others. I think on average I worked from 8.30-6.
I really liked that I worked on a project from its early stages. So I was able to see the evolution throughout the internship and measure my contribution to the team.
Considering that I will start my masters in Computer Science I think that the software development skills that I acquired during the internship will be very useful for my future.
The Company
I think everyone was quite relaxed and friendly. There were times when people were a bit stressed, but I think that is normal when working so close with the traders.
I was very happy with this part. Through the meetings organized by HR I got the chance to meet very interesting people and listen to their talks. This helped me understand the business better and to see what learn what did different directors and MDs do to get where they are. Also, everybody in my team was very nice and they helped me whenever I needed help.
The Culture
I think as interns we get along very well.
I think I spent about 1300£/month on living and socialising
Yes, although because I am in London only for 2 months and I have many friends that live here, I didn't get the chance to get involved in too many activities in between meeting them and work.
