The Role
Enjoyed the work and the team hugely. Only times I didn't enjoy it was when I had very little work.
The team were do lovely and friendly and helpful, and genuinely made me feel welcome.
My analyst buddy in particular was extremely helpful - he was so willing to sit and explain things with me even when he was busy
Very much varied. For a couple of weeks I had absolutely no work which was disappointing as other interns in my team seemed to be swamped with work. It didn't always feel that the work had been split completely fairly. Once we had been given our valuation projects I was alot busier and enjoyed it significantly more.
Had the opportunity to produce some Brexit slides that were emailed to the whole of EMEA Banking, which was exciting. Other than that we were doing analysis to assist analysts, so did have a reasonable amount of responsibility.
In terms of my degree many of the technical skills are irrelevant, but the focus on analysis and attention to detail is nothing but beneficial. I hope to pursue a career in banking so the skills will obviously be very useful in this.
The Company
Amicable, focussed but friendly and lighthearted at the same time.
The analysts didn't seem to have much of an idea about what the work shadowing was supposed to achieve, for example were we supposed to simply watch them work or should we have been doing something.
Everyone that I met was extremely willing to sit and explain things to me and help me learn, both technical skills but also general life skills for the workplace.
I would very much like to work for Barclays as I have felt extremely welocme in the firm, I respect their values hugely and I have thoroughly enjoyed the job that I have been doing.
The Culture
Got very lucky being in a team of eight interns - it meant the experience was so much more enjoyable as we were all learning together, and could socialise together in the evenings as well.
Expensive! But the relocation allowance was so great - it meant I could live close to the internship.
Enjoyable.
Citizenship Challenge.
