About You
The internship in Audit (3 week summer vacation scheme in my penultimate year at university), was all about getting a job offer at the end. What I didn't anticipate however was working on really important clients at a busy period and making genuine firm friends on the countless social opportunities.
The company has ultimately invested time and money into me. Not only did I get a hotel induction with all food and expenses covered at the start of the internship to meet other interns, but we also had multiple socials throughout the programme. I also had the chance to work on a new client each week, including a client two hours away for a week, thus requiring another paid for hotel stay and expenses.
The first week was quite rough for guidance as I frankly had a poor manager who perhaps didn;t appreciate my inexperience. That aside I was then working with former interns/first or second years who fully understood what position I was in and guided me every step of the way, setting me do-able work as a result.
Massively. I now know the software Deloitte audit teams use and am confident about the way I want to specialise within audit - in my case in private markets and FTSE.
The Company
The insight gave me a huge amount of variety however placed a huge amount of faith in the team you were put with. It was up to them to judge how capable you were and to have the time to set work for you. In my case i got lucky for two out of the three weeks and had a great time, learning fast!
The atmosphere between interns was brilliant. We set up facebook chats immediately and met up for our own socials as well as the ones Deloitte paid for. Inter service line we got to know about each others jobs as well. I also got on so well with Deloitte employees that I had texts wishing me good luck for my partner interview, and they were there to write me some outstandingly helpful and detailed feedback.
I got IT inductions, a hotel general induction, partner meet and greets and socials
The socials meant it was perhaps a bit too much fun and games, however generally I felt I got a fair reflection...or at least could ask others what it is really like every day of the year!
I learnt a huge amount about the Deloitte way of presentation and working with clients as well as the social aspect
I was fairly set on doing my accounting exams however I now feel I can really justify why I am embarking on a grad opportunity with Deloitte (having had a successful partner interview after the internship. Not only that I have set myself promotion targets as it is really easy to map out the early stages of your career in a big 4 firm.
Everything Else
The expenses were easy to claim and brilliant! I got 45p in petrol expenses (meaning my two hour drive was extremely profitable!) as well as £35 allowance for food on my away job per day
I had arranged partner meet and greets, a buddy system which was hugely helpful, social drinks and worked with new teams every week

Yes - I used the networking events extensively for this however the company was quick to tell me about such opportunities at the inductions
Absolutely - it has been my opportunity to secure a brilliant grad job a year in advance and the company totally won me over!!!
