The Role
Very much appreciated the new experience outside of mainstream banking, which is all I had been exposed to up to now. Really enjoyed working in the Tax department and the interface with clients, albeit sometimes limited, even in just a 4-week internship.
Always happy to provide feedback and willing to get me involved in as much as possible. They were very understanding when I had trouble with some technical tax cases but helped me throughout and were always supportive.
Very much so, as above.
Although sometimes there were fluctuations, I was primarily busy for the 4 weeks I was there. I was involved in conference calls, face-to-face meetings as well as fee/tax proposals, which I felt reflected a typical day for a more experienced employee.
As much as possible without overstepping the mark. I appreciated what I was given and felt I had been given clear advice and guidance before starting.
Specifically to my degree, the skills weren't perhaps entirely relevant. Having said this, I know I will benefit from having improved my skills of presenting, persuasion and self-belief even if this is not fully realised in my degree, but certainly will be beyond this.
The Company
Fantastic atmosphere, the office seems to have a reputation throughout KPMG as one that combines the usual hard-work and dedication to clients with a very friendly and hospitable environment, which I certainly witnessed. It was very easy to settle in.
It was very well organised and well-balanced as well, which was important. Though much of it focussed on giving me an introduction to tax and the remit of a tax specialist, as expected, there were numerous opportunities to network, socialise and integrate with other interns/employees to gain a wider insight into KPMG.
I felt they invested heavily in me. There were an initial 3 days worth of training at the beginning of the programme, as well as a Corporate Responsibility day and a training day aimed at improving key skills such as presenting, listening and body language.

I have my interview today so hopefully that can reaffirm as to how appealing a firm KPMG is to work for. As I said, it has been a great few weeks and I have appreciated the time with KPMG very much and hope to explore opportunities with them in the future.
The Culture
Yes, we were all invited to an intern bowling night at the O2, which was a fantastic combination of a fun evening (approximately halfway through the placement) whilst widening our own social and professional networks. This was in addition to a beach volleyball and basketball social hosted by my home office which was similarly enjoyable.
