    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed it immensely, apart from the presentation process which was quite stressful.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued, was given the trust at an early stage to give them the best of my abilities.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Was always given advice when I asked for it and also got guidance where I didn't know I needed it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility (which was mostly really good), perhaps a little too much. Was asked to take work home and do overtime, even though I was assured at the beginning this would not happen.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt a lot of computer skills relevant to audit especially. Learnt a lot which will help me in the conclusion of my accounting degree next year also. I feel like I could step into working Grant Thornton again with ease if I joined them next year,

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and welcoming, everybody was super nice! A lot of collaboration.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Mostly well organised, except when I was told that time would materialise during the workday in which I could prepare my end of internship presentation (which I was to be assessed on) and it never materialised despite constant reminders that it would. Eventually had to use my spare time, which would've been fine had I been told I would have to do that from the beginning, in which case I would've started my prep a lot earlier and would've avoided the stress. I think part of which made it so good was how little formal organisation there was, as it felt like I was helping the team and contributing meaningful work due to the realism.
