The Role
Enjoyable working environment. Business pace is very slow - projects which run over many years seems to drop motivation to achieve goals on time.
My presence within the office was very much appreciated. However, due to the short work period, colleagues seemed wary to task me with any major work items.
Manager was happy to answer any questions and queries I had. There was little guidance as to how to go about working in a RR structure.
Pretty bored. Most of the time I went around the office asking if there was any work available for me to do, however mundane. Picked up a few major pieces of work which kept me busy as a result - but initial work load was low and definitely insufficient for the time I was in the office.
I was given a lot of responsibility on the work I was doing which was great. Felt as if I very much 'owned' the work I was doing.
Essential aspects to business behaviours and requirements were very helpful. Some 'technical' knowledge was also very useful and will be helpful for post-graduation work.
The Company
Good atmosphere - people were happy to chat, take time off work to grab a coffee and generally to make time for each other.
Initial interview/hiring procedure was very organised. However, when I arrived at RR it seemed as if I wasn't expected. My initial manager finished the week I arrived and had prepared no work. My next manager finished two weeks later and the same was true. My THIRD manager was able to set me some tasks but by the time I had properly got stuck in I was towards the back end of my internship and looking to begin to wrap things up.
The Global Induction Day was very helpful to understand RR values and overall aims. Required training was readily available and easy to access which aided development.

Depending on work environment and projects, future employment could be promising. However, given the slow pace of the nature of the business, I feel I am better suited for other companies.
The Culture
Social scene between other interns and students was great. Staying together in Derby University Halls very much bolstered that.
Derby is relatively cheap - halls were a reasonable price and nights-out were also cheap. Some "higher-end" spots were more expensive but not deterring.
Nightlife was good - very close and cheap. Lots on offer but quite a tacky feel at times.
Personally, I got involved with the football team at RR and the local gym.
