The Role
I really enjoyed my six week internship at EY. I learnt so much from the people I was surrounded with and definitely built up my self confidence.
I felt very valued and respected by everyone in the office from the consultants to the partners. The hot desking idea is brilliant and allowed wide interaction between all team members.
I was able to contact my counsellor, buddy and whole team at all times via email, Skype, phone or face to face. Nobody ever told me that they were too busy to listen to me or help me. This was one of the highlights of the EY working culture that I really enjoyed.
I was busy most of the time during my internship. I spent a lot of time at MLP and helped different managers on different tasks.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement and felt part of the team. I had to interact with clients and staff to obtain information off them and this was sent to the clients. This made me feel responsible for my work.
I definitely built up my self-confidence during my time at EY. I am able to speak up with confidence and interact with staff and clients across all ranks. This made me feel very independent and responsible. I shall definitely carry the softer skills I have picked up and use them towards my degree and life afterwards.
The Company
I absolutely loved the atmosphere in the EY office, all the members of the team are all so welcoming and helpful. There was never once I heard anyone shouting at anyone else. The collaboration between team members from all ranks was very integrated and I really enjoyed being part of the team. I also enjoyed the hot desking idea which encouraged people to interact more.
The internship was organised well in general, however I experienced a bit of hiccup because the client jobs for me changed. I was due to work in Nottingham and the client cancelled at the last minute and then I got sent to London. The whole structure of my particular role changed, however I really enjoyed coming to London and interacting with the IAC team here. I got really close to the rest of the interns and we are good friends now. The team adapted well to having me here and I really enjoyed it.
The members of staff that I worked with invested a lot of time into me by speaking to me and answering all questions I had. There was never a time I was told that someone did not have time to explain something to me. The team was all very patient and understanding and never got upset when I asked for further clarification on specific tasks. The company organised a partner dinner with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] which was definitely a highlight of my six week internship as we got to sit down in an informal setting with him and ask him all the questions we wanted to.

The graduate role definitely appeals to me and I would love to be part of this great organisation. I am interested in growing within it and probably specialising in a particular sector. At the minute, real estate appeals to me. I would like to probably do a few secondments and travel. The idea of EY being such a global, well recognised brand is a huge plus point and the fact that I would be able to travel for work is exciting.
The Culture
The EY socials are some of the best ones I have been to! We organised drinks, dinners and other socials after work to try and get everyone together in an informal setting. It was a bit disappointing that they didn't have an EY end of internship social for us, however we have still organised our own thing where we will go out for drinks near MLP and possibly dinner after. I am excited about this and it a great networking opportunity in an informal setting.
The cost of living and socialising is quite high because we are right in the heart of central London. Compared to Birmingham and the area in London I live in (Harrow), the cost for food and drink are much higher. The chain restaurants like Strada and Jamie's Italian are reasonably priced and they are standard everywhere across the UK, however other places are slightly more expensive.
I never really went out near London Bridge, however I presume that it is expensive as this is Zone 1 in central London. I wish I could have gone out, however it never really worked out. A lot of the interns however spoke very highly of the clubs around London and hopefully I shall get an opportunity to visit them soon with the other interns. It is also the capital of the UK, so there will always be somewhere to go out. The buzz in London is amazing and I would love to go out soon.
Yes, the list of opportunities is endless and I have gotten involved in a few during my six week summer internship at EY. I joined the EY Netball team and played a few matches after work. I also attended one tournament which was a great opportunity to meet people outside IAC and network with them in an informal setting. I have also joined the EY Sikh Network which organises events every now and again.
