The Role
I feel I was placed in an excellent team which has a lot going on and loads to do and learn about. I have loved coming into work and I feel that I have done some really good and worthwhile work.
I feel completely valued by my colleagues, I felt welcome on day one and I feel just as welcome now. I feel like my opinion matters and I have comments to make that are useful and can make a difference to the projects and the team.
My team and my manager have offered me no end of guidance and support and if I have had any difficulties or questions I have always been able to turn to them for advice and help, for that I am really grateful.
I have had a great balance of busyness, I have had work to get on with everyday and I have had extra meetings and outside of office activities that have slotted in well so that I feel the pressure of work to do but not so much that I have become stressed or down.
I feel I was given a perfect amount of responsibility for the role I am in. I would not have wanted any more because of my limited knowledge and experience but I feel that I have been given a good amount and there have been things that I have needed to get on with and do and I have had opportunities to lead meetings and catch ups on the different projects that I have been working on.
I have learnt lots of new skills in networking, social skills, skills on producing audits and presentations as well as many more, these will be extremely useful to me for my future studies and career as I will have a real chance to implement them in the future and they are skills that I can take on and develop as I go through my career and studies.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office has always been a positive one with a strong work ethic at all times. I have felt that although chatting and catching up are permitted there was a good balance between that and getting work done. The vibrancy and the driven nature of my colleagues in the office has encouraged me to work hard and get the best out of each task that I have taken part in.
I would say that the overall work placement has been really brilliantly set up. The induction day allowed us to find our feet and get to know the other summer placements and learn about the types of things that we will be doing. I feel that I have been perfectly eased into work and into working in an office environment, something in which I have not had a huge amount of experience before. I have appreciated the weekly communications from the graduate team as well as from my own stream, catching up and being able to ask any questions I may have. Before the placement I think that we were all well informed in where we needed to go, what we needed to bring and any other pieces of information that we might have needed.
I feel that the firm has invested everything possible into me and the other summer placements. I am so grateful for the time and energy that is put into us, I have never felt like a spare part or a nuisance and I have learnt a huge amount over the weeks. You get a strong feeling that you are wanted, respected and appreciated as a summer placement at Centrica and I am really grateful for that too.

I am really hoping to get onto the graduate scheme as a result of my summer placement because I have been so enthused about the company and the energy industry as a whole. A future prospect of employment within this organisation is the end goal and I can only hope that I have done enough to secure that! (The only reason I haven't put 10 out of 10 is because it says 'got a job with them' and sadly I cannot confrim that yet)
The Culture
The other summer placements here have all been really approachable and easy to get on with people. We have all bonded really well and we get on like we have been friends for years. It really helps to come back from the office and have a nice group of people to spend time with and discuss our days with, we have a great social scene over the weekends and go out for meals sometimes in the weekday evenings.
Because we are near London nothing is particularly cheap. There are nice restaurants around in Egham, Staines and Windsor but they are all largely quite expensive, but thankfully we are getting paid quite a nice amount for our placement so we can afford to have the odd meal or drink out!
Th nightlife is quite good in this area but being near London is the real draw as there are of course numerous clubs, restaurants and bars. There are some good places closer to home however and there are some fun pubs that we can all meet up in and have catch ups. Most places are easily reachable by walking or taxi and the taxis aren't too expensive.
I have got involved in a few different activities like gym classes in the gym at our accomodation and there are also tennis courts. There is a large lake nearby as well where it is possible to go for runs and walks and see some nice non urban scenery. There have also been events for the summer placements in the evenings and outside of work such as a dodgeball tournament, two BBQs and an induction event at the very begining.
