The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this placement, unlike previous companies I've interned for there was a clear set of tasks for me to complete. These tasks were actual jobs that needed doing to assist the team and weren't just superfluous tasks to fill up my time.
I feel I was respected and valued by all those I interacted with. I was sitting near some relatively senior figures in the company but they were always willing to chat to me and answer any questions I might have.
My manager was excellent as he made sure I always had work to be getting on, he was also always there to help if I needed assistance on something. We were allocated a graduate 'buddy' each and that acted as an extra level of support that we could fall back on if we needed it.
Most of the time I was working independently on projects and so it was up to me to schedule my time appropriately and get the job done. I always had enough work to be getting on with but I never felt like I was under an excess amount of pressure from my team.
Some of the tasks given to me were of significant importance to the team, and some of the work I have done here will be used by the team in years to come. I would therefore say I was given a good amount of responsibility, but there was always someone more senior I could turn to if I ran into problems.
All the interns were given excel training and presentation training which will undoubtedly be useful in later life. I also developed my skills whilst on the job as I was encouraged to attempt new and unfamiliar tasks.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is extremely friendly, in my department there is a broad range from graduates to senor staff but everyone gets on well with one another and treats each other with respect. While there are occasionally times for some light hearted discussion, for the most part people are focused on their work and generally work quite hard. . . .
The internship was extremely well organised by the grad team, before we started we were given lots of information about what to expect, where we would be staying etc. There was an induction day at the start of the program which helped all us interns familiarise ourselves with the company, and there was plenty of contact from the grad team to check that we were all settling in ok. . . . . .
The company gave us time off work to complete training courses which will undoubtedly be useful in later life. Beyond the training courses they also provided training by way of the sorts of jobs I was given. For example, I was given a task which needed substantial knowledge of excel to complete, rather than giving it to one of the existing employees, I was encouraged to give it a go and through my work I was able to substantially improve my own skills. . . .

I would say the future employment prospects are definitely appealing, there is a real effort to make sure you are having a productive internship and from talking to graduates I think this continues on the graduate scheme. I will be looking for a job in a stream different to the one my internship is in, but when I asked the grad team about switching they were very helpful and showed me who I needed to speak to. There is such a broad range of roles in this company that I'm sure everyone could find something that they love.
The Culture
One of the main benefits of this placement is that they provide you accommodation so you will be living with the other interns on the scheme. Not only does this mean you save loads on living expenses but also guarantees that there is a good social scene around. We would always eat meals together in the evening and quite often went out together as a big group on the weekends. It is a far nicer experience when there other people of your own age who you can chat to in the evenings. . . .
They provided us with free accommodation so that was a major expense saved. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby so it was relatively easy to get food. It really does help if you have a car as some places aren't in walking distance, but saying that all the interns are living in the same place so there is usually someone who can give you a lift. There are a few pubs nearby but the nearest night clubs are in Windsor, they're nothing special but still good enough for a fun night out. The offices all have canteens which are reasonably priced so overall living expenses were pretty low.
There are a few pubs nearby but the nearest night clubs are in Windsor, they're nothing special but still good enough for a fun night out. It doesn't really matter too much about the standard of the venue because there are so many of you that anything will be decent. Saying that I would recommend the Weatherspoons in Windsor which is honestly the largest pub I have ever seen, it have 4 levels and an outside area about the size of a football pitch. . . . . . .
We were encouraged to sign up for opportunities beyond our own field of work, for example there were opportunities to take field trips to see other parts of the company, or attend talks on a variety of different topics. We were also split into groups and encouraged to complete charity work so our group did some sponsored events and some volunteering which was all very enjoyable. They also give you a week of holiday so you can still go away for a week if you want to.
