    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship over the 6 weeks, I enjoyed the work i was doing, and the office environment.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I very much got the impression that everyone I was working with wanted me to get as much as i could out of the 6 weeks, from answering all of my questions to contributing to work for real clients.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I worked with my manager and the other trainees for the 6 weeks and i could ask questions about the work if i got stuck very easily. For the most part i was sat next to trainees that taught and guided me through the work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Unfortunately there was a dip in work in my 6 weeks but overall i was able to do enough work to gain a good understanding of the work trainees and manager do in business tax.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to do work for clients without help during my 6 weeks however all work done by trainees is reviewed by managers. You have responsibility but you wont be submitting anything that hasn't been reviewed.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study economics at university and the work I did during my internship allowed me to see the how clients operate their businesses and when i go back to university i'll have a better idea about how some of the macro and micro economic theory affects these real businesses.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was really good. You work on the same floor as the managers and the partner and everyone is very accessible. The assistant manager is always looking out to help you where he/she can and everyone in the team is friendly and warm. I didn't have any issues with anyone and the atmosphere that is created in general is one which you feel encouraged to succeed in the internship and work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The induction days were very well organised, you can tell a lot of thought goes into that whole process. they arranged for senior members of staff from each of the different departments to talk to us about what they do so when you go back to your department you have a decent idea of what happens everywhere else. During the scheme there isn't a set structure but you get thrown in to work on real clients with graduates (often the graduates actual clients) and you very much learn through work that comes your way.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training is very much hands on, you start off with a graduate trainee going through the basic tasks with you, these basic tasks are things that they do in their normal 9-5 grad job and its on real clients so you get quite involved straight away. You learn quite a lot and by the end and you'll know what your life would be like as a grad. They do give you some insight into the actual training process that you will undergo as a trainee for three years and you learn about the personal training that you will do should you come back.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Employment prospects are very good, once qualified you can move up positions within the firm. There are also other offices and departments that you can contact to find the best role for you.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There didn't seem to be many social events organised outside of working hours with colleges, however you could create your own if you contact people.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Surrey isn't the cheapest place although I've never lived anywhere else, so I'm used to paying £4.50 for a pint of Peroni. Its not a problem to move down here and enjoy yourself without being tight on money as long as you don't blow your paycheck on stupid things every month.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I haven't really delved into this too much however you're right in the centre of Guildford which is pretty big and has pretty much everything you need. Its also on the doorstep of the University of Surrey and therefore there are plenty of things for young people to do, that includes pubs, clubs and other things you may think of.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Guildford has lots to do so I cant imagen it would be problem to come down and find some stuff to get involved in and build a new social life. As mentioned already you're on the doorstep of a big Uni and there are lots businesses catering to that which is good news for grads.
