The Role
Very much enjoyed the culture of the company and the work set was varied and interesting
I felt I played an integral role in all of the cases that I was involved with.
During the first 2 weeks I was given some training on how to use vital applications so I could then be relied upon to perform certain functions on these applications.
My days varied massively. Occasionally I would have days where I would have little to do but often I was working non-stop all day which I very much enjoyed.
During the first few weeks, as expected, I was not given much responsibility, but as I built a relationship with my department, I was entrusted with more difficult work requiring more responsibility from me.
I have learnt many tips and tricks on excel that I did not know before which is very useful in statistics and in the finance world in general. I also spent a lot of my internship writing reports for cases which is vital for my degree and especially dissertation next year where I will need to process a lot of information and pick and choose the most relevant data.
The Company
Very friendly and approachable. Everyone was always wanting to help me.
Very organised. The first week consisted of a 2 day induction and then there were several organised events during the internship to make sure that I was on track. The work in my department was hard to plan since it was entirely case driven but I was able to fully utilise my time at Smith & Williamson.
I was given the opportunity to go to Paris on a trip to experience and international client which was invaluable. I was also given exposure to many high profile clients and cases that we were dealing with which was far better than I could have expected.
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
I would very much like to get a graduate job at Smith & Williamson since it is a firm that very much suits my personality or being inclusive and a very approachable place.
The Culture
All the interns in the London office quickly became good friends and regularly met up for lunch and drinks after work which was brilliant. Within the department, there were several organised social events for occasions during my internship which were great fun.
As an intern the cost of socialising is very minimal when you are with your department. However, central London is never going to be cheap.
There were a few pubs around where many city workers would congregate at the end of each day which were maximum 1 minute walk away.
No.
