The Role
Completing an internship in TTS allowed me to become an active member in my team. I was given a lot of work and responsibility from the very start and was able to make an actual difference to the team. From in-depth training and overviews of the business as a whole to speaker series with people who are at the top of their respective fields, there was always so much going on every day.
Initially, I was given a few long term tasks which sounded very basic. But upon learning more about my team and how my work would help to bring in more clients or increase the business we get from other clients, I felt very valued. The team were great for praising when you did well but were not afraid to call you out if the end product was not what was expected. I enjoyed this.
Support was always there. But in TTS, there is a good bit of getting your end target and then running with it the best you can. I always felt like I could ask questions when I was stuck but I spent a lot of time doing the projects in a way that suited my skills. And if any tweaking was needed towards the end of the projects, I would sit with whoever delegated it to me and we would fix it up together.
I was very busy. I took on multiple projects throughout this internship and actively seeked out work where I could find it. This was not a 9-5:30 job but everyone else works very hard as well so it is easy to get into that kind of atmosphere. I had long term projects mixed with smaller ones that would take a few hours. There was always a challenge of balancing my work and getting end results.
I feel like I was given a lot of responsibility and trust straight away. I was able to lead a financial analysis in my first week and took on a pricing project after a few weeks. I feel like the ability to drive projects myself and not just do basic tasks to help my team was the difference between myself and other interns I have heard from! You can take on as much as you can handle and run with it.
I feel like the work in projects rather than just one off tasks was a big thing for me. I was not used to this and, while it took some getting used to, I really feel like I am learning a lot because of it. Taking on various different projects has given me an oversight as to what my team does. I am glad I am not just being pinned down to one area and that I am able to learn more this way.
The Company
Everyone in the office works hard. Whether it is working through lunch, staying in late or even coming back in to the office at night, people work hard here. They finish when the job is done and not any sooner. I thought this was impressive and it helped drive me forward. I feel like there were times when you could chat and get to know the team a lot better. But the work came first.
There was an outline at the start but it completely changed as we went along. I enjoyed this as I wanted more and more work. I would have hated it if my internship stayed the same way it was planned. However, getting exposure to more projects and meeting new people allowed me to get the most out of this internship.
Two days intense training to start and get your bearings. But the training really began when you sit with your team. It is the kind of work where you learn on the job. I spent a lot of time asking questions and going to talks, but I think I am better because of it.

While I am still not sure exactly what area I would like to work in, I know that Citi would be an amazing place to work. This is now my second summer in a row that I have spent with Citi and I don't regret it one bit. From the training to the people to the future opportunities to advance your career, it really is a great place to work. I will do my best to stay within Citi.
The Culture
More of an effort could have been made to integrate us. We tried several times to organise nights out and lunches but not everyone would get involved. Could have used a few more nights at the start of the internship when we were all getting to know each other.
I lived from home so that was fine. Socialising in the IFSC was fairly pricey but there are great places nearby that are affordable for all. This is not one of the most expensive cities and can compete with a lot of other places. Food was a bit expensive in the canteen but cheap in comparison to the surrounding areas.
Not great right beside us! There were a few places near by that were good to go to for a little bit but you would not stay there all night. However you are a 10/15 minute from many clubs and bars which similar people end up in. This is a great place to socialise and meet other young business workers around Dublin.
Not really. I have not heard of sports or events at all.
