The Role
I have done a few internships before, including one at another investment bank. Compared to my previous experiences, I would say that my time working at MUFG has been the best in terms of the job itself and the relationships with people.
I got along extremely well with all the members of my team. There was a very good atmosphere that made me feel comfortable and have fun while working! Moreover, I felt really integrated and valued since the beginning. They asked my opinion on serious matters and involved me on tasks that were key for the execution of client transactions, thus giving me the opportunity to truly add value to the team and the business as a whole.
Everyone in the team was really accessible and willing to help me or explain me something when I needed it. Both my manager and other members of the team consistently gave me feedback and advice throughout the internship, which helped me to make the most out of the experience.
I rarely found myself with nothing to do. From the first moment I arrived to the desk I was given interesting tasks and I have always been kept busy, which was really satisfying and stimulating as I felt I was adding some value with my work on a daily basis. At the same time, I never felt stressed or overloaded with work - in any case, when I thought I could not complete all tasks on time, it would always be okay to discuss with whoever gave them to me and rearrange deadlines if necessary.
I think I was given a good amount of responsibility in accordance to my capabilities. It was good to see that the degree of importance of the tasks I was given increased as I improved my technical knowledge and skills.
I have learned a lot and developed on-the-job skills that I could not have otherwise acquired. Also, getting used to dealing with real responsibilities and complex products and transactions will definitely be useful in my professional life or in an academic environment.
The Company
Everyone was extremely friendly and accessible. Even when only networking with other teams, I felt very comfortable and integrated.
All the events and the training we had were very well organised. I might have however some suggestions, especially I would have probably liked to have a couple more networking events with different product teams, as opposed to only formal presentations (who were definitely very useful). However I liked the fact that we had interaction with the international offices throughout the internship, a really differentiating factor with respect to other banks.
We had very good technical training sessions and the opportunity to attend a Bloomberg training course. Moreover, I think it was very useful to have access to high quality online training modules at all points during the internship.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Luckily, my team has expressed that they are very happy with the idea of me joining, if it is possible in terms of headcount.
The Culture
London is not cheap, in general, but it was possible to not spend too much on living and socialising.
There were lots of lively bars and restaurants nearby.
We had a few official outside-of-work events and we also informally planned drinks and other type of events.
