The Role
The internship so far has been fantastically organised, the first week was a company and industry induction which was great for getting everyone up to speed on the basics of what the company and the industry does. this was also a great chance to get to know the other interns and other employees. There were also many social and team building events provided which was a great addition. It really does make you feel valued within the company.
definitely a sense around the company that the interns are valued. there is a huge amount of investment put into training up the interns and it is more a long term view and there is a feeling that you are joining Fidelity for the long term rather than a more frequent turnover rate of other companies in the finance sector. the training provided was extremely useful both in terms of the company induction and the departmental induction which included introductions to each team within the department to give me a well rounded view of how everything works.
Constant a plentiful support from managers and colleague alike. it surprised me at how willing everyone is to help out and offer advice to the new interns, even the most senior employees were willing to share their stories and tips. Frequent appraisals and informal catchups were also useful to understand were my line manager wanted me to progress.
Busy, my role is non project based so it does depend slightly on the amount of work but so far I have been busy but it has been manageable and I haven't felt like my workload is too high. Work depends on the request coming in so it can vary but there is always something to be getting on with.
I have been able to take on responsibility talking to clients and colleague and solving their issues. within the first week I was making simple calls to clients and I was allowed to get on with things which was a good way to learn. supervision was still there but I felt the learning techniques were good.
the skills and experience will be invaluable in applying for permanent positions. communication skills, presentations, client facing experience, working in a team, managing my workload and proactivity will all be things a take forward into the future.
The Company
Office atmosphere is very good, everyone is very friendly and willing to help out and introduce themselves. It is a relatively relaxed office atmosphere with an open-plan layout where I sit with the other members of my team so there is a good team atmosphere too.
it has been very well organised so far. social event and learning has been good with regular presentations to learn about other parts of the business and generally gain a more complete understanding of the company. Investment in the interns is good and the HR team are always happy to help and are easily contactable.
this area has been very impressive. from the outset we have had a week of inductions that brought us all up to speed as we came from a range of degree backgrounds. then the training within the team has been good. I was involved in meetings and saw various presentations to introduce me to each team and learn what they do. I have learnt more than I had imagined and am still learning after 5 weeks. My manager also takes the my long term view and encourages my personal development. I think there is a focus on finding where the right place for you in the company is so its not that you are stuck in one team doing one thing.

Company Parties/Events
future employment prospects are very appealing, it is a company that values its employees and that is evidenced in the fact that many of the employees have been here for a considerable amount of time. It would be great to get a position on the graduate scheme that will offer me three rotations around sales, marketing and product, including one rotation abroad.
The Culture
the social scene was good, there were events during the summer and throughout the year for the interns. It is a shame that we are split up between three different offices so it means that we don't see a huge amount of the others that are in the other locations but the organised events are a good time to catch up.
Living in London is not cheap but I was working in Surrey.
