The Role
The Placement was very insightful throughout its entirety and was backed up with good support which made the placement enjoyable and a good learning experience whilst at the bank.
Colleagues treat you like an everyday employee and give you same responsibility leaving you feeling valued within the team. There is plenty of opportunity to mix with the team through social events in and out of work.
Assigned a buddy and mentor who are experienced staff members within the organization to support you through the learning process. Management also has weekly meetings to discuss any issues and offer support and guidance. This follows a week long training program that focuses on bank wide and line of business specific training.
On a daily basis the balance was good, depending on the department you work in the hours of work provide a good work/life balance. There is plenty of opportunities to take part in projects should there not be enough business as usual work being carried out at that time.
During the placement you are treated like a normal employee so have the same level of responsibility. You are also given responsibility over a project or task to complete during the placement.
The training you receive can be carried forward to other employees and also the skills to be used in University. The placement gives you the opportunity to develop soft skills such as communication and time keeping as well as present to senior management and your colleagues.
The Company
The office is very friendly and relaxed, Chester base provides a friendlier campus style environment. Social events are also organized to get the team to mix and bond. The atmosphere within the office allows for you to be social with colleagues within the Line of Business itself and also the department itself.
The placement was well organized from the campus recruitment side from the assessment center (Although you may be called with very short notice) through to the training sessions that are organized in London and then into your individual office. There is plenty of support always available that allows for the process to be streamlined through the on-boarding system.
The company puts a large level of trust into you as an individual and sets a large amount of time aside to provide you with learning sessions and personal development opportunities. There are regular sessions with different departments within the organization in order to gain a greater understanding of the other lines of business and also different areas of the business. The company also provides you with support sessions that are independent offering training such as life skills as well as general technology training for people that sit outside of the Tech + Opps department.

The future employment prospects within Bank Of America are very appealing. The office provides a friendly environment that is more than welcoming, backed up by a formal training and development process. The organization also offers a vast array of company benefits which makes the opportunity appealing following graduation. Bank Of America are also increasing there presence in the UK so there will be a larger opportunity for managerial training and development.
The Culture
Whilst at Bank Of America ML there were a large number of fellow placement students in which there were company organized social events in and out of work in order to mix with other interns such as meal's out, sporting events and trips. There are also plenty of opportunities for social events to be organized by the students themselves outside of the workplace as everyone is wanting to socialize outside of work.
Living in Chester the cost of living is quite from living in the North West where rent and commodities are cheaply priced. Socializing outside of work is also cheaper due to lower drinks prices and attraction fees. There is plenty of attractions to visit and spend time at during the weekend and evenings. The average cost for a pint is £2.50-£3 in the majority of locations.
There are a number of local bars and restaurants that cater to a wide range of tastes with 2 major clubs located in Chester. These are open the majority of the week however there is also direct transport links to Liverpool and also Manchester by bus and rail. Chester also hosts the Races on a monthly basis which provides a good social opportunity.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work such as sporting events which are held on the campus and also within the city itself. There are plenty of facilities and attractions within Chester to keep occupied outside of work such as sporting, walks and also nightlife opportunities within the city to take part as a work group or just as interns. The City is safe and also a good size for living in with plenty of retail opportunities.
