The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship in the Sales Department at FDM Group. I have developed existing skills and acquired new skills that will be invaluable in any future job that I have in the future. I feel it has been a great stepping stone between the second year of University and graduate jobs that I will be applying to in the upcoming autumn. I was given many opportunities and entrusted with tasks during my internship, individually and within teams, and I never once felt like just the 'intern' but was always treated like a valued and equal employee. It was great to have an insight in a leading graduate IT employee in such a hands on and rewarding fashion.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues and it was such a good team atmosphere.
I was managed fantastically, in a way that I could improve the skills that I felt were important to hone and had a point of contact regularly checking on my progress and providing support.
Some days were extremely busy and pressured, in a really good way so that the days went very quickly. Even on the days that were slightly less busy there was always something to do and learn or develop upon.
I was given significant responsibility during my internship; taking a very active role in the day to day running of the sales department. I was able to understand Salesforce, run and create reports for the Account Managers, run the CV workshop in the first week of pro skills and was even lucky enough to visit HSBC, Virgin Money and Sky; which indicates just how lucky I was throughout my 8 weeks.
The skills I've learnt during my internship are skills that will be utilised and developed throughout the rest of my working life. The exposure to the IT and commercial world has been very useful and has helped me have a better appreciation for what I would like to do in the future and what skills need to be honed in my final year of Uni in order to get to the end goal of a grad position.
The Company
I was placed in the Leeds Sales team and the atmosphere in the office was friendly, fun and enticing. The highlight of the internship for me was the people I met and how well I got on with the team in Leeds.
The internship was well organised and I liked that in my location there was a certain level of autonomy, in that I was able to have some say in what I'd like to achieve and what tasks were the best to undertake in order to get there.
My line managers and the Regional Manager in Leeds invested time in my personal training and development. I was very grateful for how attentive they were and how much I was able to gain from them with constant opportunities for feedback and self improvement.
