The Role
The work placement was extremely enjoyable. The team that I worked with and the HR staff in charge of the interns were friendly and helpful, and the work that was allocated really mattered, and was fair in quantity without being overloading.
I felt like an equal to my colleagues and was always told when handing in work related to my project that was appreciated. The team were friendly and invited me to many functions, and even asked me to organize one. It was a fun, yet serious workplace and I would definitely like to return.
The placement sets you up with a buddy, mentor and manager. Each of which can offer guidance and support specific to their role. The other members of the team also helped by giving up their time and guiding any problems that you may have in the right direction. There is even the opportunity to shadow other teams, which was encouraged by most interns managers.
On a daily basis I would work from about 8.15 to 5.30, with an hour for lunch. Throughout this time I would always have things to do, aside from the first two weeks (the first of which was packed full of training, and the second of which I spent shadowing various other teams and getting my workspace set up)
I was given a large amount of responsibility - I was responsible for the UI design of an entire application and also worked on the functionality and had two other side projects. I had weekly calls to share my progress with international teams and constant feedback and guidance. The work I did mattered and was incredibly rewarding.
The training I received was incredible - I learned more on the job about finance and technology than I did through any of the books and research I did beforehand, and have a solid knowledge base about the financial markets and the role of an investment bank, with a focus on technology. Training varied from personal skills to interpersonal and technological ones, and each member of staff delivering the training felt like a Russel-group university lecturer.
The Company
I sat on the trading floor, and the atmosphere was always one of business, but at the same time one in which I could relax. I sat with my team who were always friendly and approachable and were often talking and laughing between working sessions. The office had the perfect balance of being enjoyable yet enabling productive work.
The placement was incredibly well organized. Having worked at two other companies, BAML was far beyond comparison. The training was incredibly effective and well organized, with calendar notifications informing you well in time for any training events during the ten week course. The staff in charge of the interns had regular drop in sessions and would reply to any concerns via email incredibly quickly. By far a very well organized internship, with a clear value and respect for all of their interns.
The company invested a massive amount into their interns. From a training perspective, the entire first week, and then probably an average of 3 hours per week was spent in training or lectures from very senior members of staff (even the CEO). The firm invested a great deal into our technical training too, with very informative and effective training in programming and other related fields.

I could not imagine myself wanting to work anywhere else than BAML. It's an incredible place with great career prospects, and nearly every intern is hoping for an offer to continue onto their analyst scheme.
The Culture
There was a great social scene among all interns. BAML did a great job of selecting friendly people, each with an interest in getting to know and enjoy the 10 weeks with the others. We regularly went to lunch and other social events together and have made great friends as a result.
London is generally an expensive area, though the salary provided by BAML is by far enough to have a good quality of living and social life. London holds the most respected and well-paying jobs, and as a result the costs associated are definitely offset by this and the incredible diversity and life that the city can provide.
The nightlife of London is incredibly diverse. From busy clubs to quiet pubs and everything in between, through various boroughs and areas, everyone is certain to find a venue or event to spend their night in that will blow their mind.
There are many opportunities to get involved in activities - from private exhibitions in art galleries, to sports, to nights out making pizza and other events, the HR team work very hard to keep the interns happy and they do a great job of it
