    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have very much enjoyed my placement as I have not just gained knowledge but also lots of experience in an area that I had never been face to face with before and that has been through a large variety of tasks and projects I have completed throughout my 10 weeks. I was part of a very nice and helpful team that supported me and were always responsive when I was in need of answers or help with something.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues as they showed they have a lot of trust me. Several members of team kindly asked me to help them out with different tasks and also take over certain weekly or monthly tasks that on a regular basis they would be in charge of and after a very short period of time into the start of my internship they gave me valuable tasks and projects to work on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have been given support and guidance at all times I needed. My line manager has been extremely kind and helpful and even when he had to be away for a certain period of time, he made sure that there is more than one person to take over and take care of me. Even if I did not really have anyone from my team in the office with me, I always managed to get in touch with the responsible people.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was satisfied with the amount of workload I was given as I really felt involved in the team and felt that I was on the same pace as them. Also, I am happy I got to work with tight and simultaneous deadlines as it helped me improve my deadline tackling skills.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a significant number of responsibilities. I took over several weekly and monthly tasks from different team members from different levels. I contributed to content that was later provided to the executive committee meetings and even chaired the weekly call with the small team that I closely worked with.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am very sure that the skills I have ameliorated and the ones that I gained throughout the ten weeks, will be very valuable and useful in my degree, when for example, in university I will need to meet different deadlinesat the same time and confidently hold a presentation in front of my seminar class. My communication skills will help me a lot when I will have to pass a clear message on to my future colleagues and make them understand why I think in the way I do and also my enhanced attention to detail skills will come in very handy later on.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was enjoyable but diverse at all times. Being in the headquarter, I was surrounded by quite senior colleagues and it was very nice to look up to them and sort of get a grasp of what a regular day in their lives looks like. The office would at times be flooding with people while other times it would be very empty. Hence, there was no regular pattern. Overall, the atmosphere was peaceful and easy to work in.

  • The placemement was very well organized. On the first day of the placement, the bank has orgnanized an enjoyable get together where intern from all ove the country came down to London and it was a great opportunity for us interns to interact and get to know one another. We were divided in groups and for the day we were in charge of managing a virtual banks. One of the perks of the induction event were the interesting talks of soem of the bank executives.
