    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it - I was given a lot of responsibility but the work load was never too much. I had a lot of opportunity to do important work and manage my colleagues, but also had time for personal development and a lot of 1-to-1's.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were wonderful, treating me like any other member of staff straight away. Despite being young they accepted that I would be managing them and were quick to help me out and show me the ropes. They also gave me a lot of responsibility showing that they trusted me with challenging tasks.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was great - always on hand to give me advice and help, about work and also personal development. All the managers within the business can give you time if you ask and are really good at giving honest feedback to help you grow. As long as you ask for their time you will definitley get it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Never too busy but rarely bored. In the first week I was a little bored as I was just shadowig however I was given full responsibility after a few weeks to take ownership of a few projectsand I was also given a team to manage after a few more weeks. This meant I always had something to do and if I found myself with no task for my team I could work on one of my projects. Any time I needed a task to keep me occupied my manager could always find one for me to do and they were never meaningless.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Full! I took full ownership of 3 projects that really benefitted the bank and I was also in charge of my own team, as their manager was away. You are given full access to the sites/programmes any other manager uses and are expected to take responsibility of tasks alone. This is great because it means you can take ownership of things but you also still have a great support system of colleagues to help you out.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I didn't do any qualifications whilst here however we did complete some online training which really increased my knowledge of banks, customers and important problems such as fraud and vulnerability. Personal development was a huge aspect of my internship - my confidence grew leaps and bounds especially with regards to people management, I also improved my organisation skills and time management, and I feel much more prepared for working life now than before.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great! Colleagues all sit close together and they were all super friendly - we also had a lot of charity events (tuck shops, games) that made working life more fun! Once a week the managers run a quiz which is a nice break from work. The break-out areas are really comfortable and have free tea/coffee and also vending machines that make sure people are always relaxed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well - specific webinars were placed throughout the placement for constant updates and info. regarding what we are doing next. We also had a lot of information prior to joining, as did our managers. The induction event in London was really helpful and a great chance to speak to senior leaders and get a good idea of the business. However, there is a charity challenge throughout the internship and I personally don't think we had enough time or information prior to the internship to complete it properly, although it is a nice idea.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot - constant webinars, online training and plenty of 1-2-1's meant that I was always growing and developing. It is about what you put in, if you work hard and constantly ask for tasks and feedback your personal development will be great. The company also make it really straight forward to get a referral to the graduate scheme which allows you to earn a great salary, work, and also study for a masters which is a really big benefit.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really appealing - the graduate scheme is paid at £28,000 a year and it has loads of benefits including a work laptop and phone as well as being able to study for a masters. It is one of the best graduate schemes out there and being on the internship gets you a bit of head start on to it.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great! My accomodation was paid for by Lloyds due to me living a while away from my placement and I was placed with a few other interns who were all great fun. I was placed in Manchester and regular socials were arranged for all interns and grads, however not quite as many as London which is a shame (but I suppose this is to be expected).

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living was free as Lloyds pay your accomodation if you live too far away (i.e. you cannot live at home). I was placed in a house in Bolton and worked in Manchester so travel to work was fairly cheap, and socialising in both of those areas is not too pricey.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Manchester has great nightlife! Loads of restaurants, bars and clubs - definitley a great city.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Only charity events however there weren't a great deal - I think one for pride and another for something similair. The only other things around Manchester were the socials for the grads/interns but these weren't really that frequent. It was more up to the interns and grads to arrange events themselves.

    3/5
