The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I was put right into the heart of things from very early on and I was taken good care of and provided with help whenever I needed it. From the beginning I settled in very quickly with all my equipment, IT etc provided from the start. I was introduced quickly to the team and was made in to a proper team member.
very valued. At all times they looked out for me, and it was not just restricted to the work place. Even at social events outside the work place they invited me along to all their events. In fact, at one point they had tickets booked for a cricket match months in advance but still tried their best to find me some to allow me to come along. When they couldn't they apologised etc and it made me feel like they genuinely cared.
I don't think it was possible to have been given any more support to be honest. Right from the get go they made it clear that they would help me in any way necesary. They talked me through the grad scheme and the different parts of the bank. They exlained various processes to me and what I could expect from various roles. Everything was simplified and highlighted for my ease.
I was never at a point where I was not happy with the amount of work I had. At certain points the work did build up a bit but it was not with any pressure, so it helped me manage my time effectively. At no point was I bored, and if I ever finished the work I had been given, which was rare, they were more than happy to provide me with some more.
I would say that my responsibility levels were fairly high. It was not like I was under intense do or die pressure but I was given important work that was used by the team. My work was not worthless, or menial admin tasks, but actual jobs that the team needed done. I could always see my work being utilised and appreciated.
To be honest there are not many way it assisted with my degree but that is mainly due to the fact that my degree that i am currently doign has very little correlation to the company I was doing my internship at. Doing an engineering degree, but a finance internship, meant that apart from time management, leadership skills and communication skills, no hard skills were helpful.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. Everyone was relaxed and sociable. There was great work place banter and lots of things to talk about, ranging from the mornigns news to sports to where the best place to et is. At the same time it was not over bearing where you felt like you were the odd one left out of the group, they were very inclusive.
very well organised. this is because as far as i could tell everything was set up for me before my arrival. even though at the half way point there was a huge office reshuffle they ensured that my desk and desktop were all sorted even though it caused inconvenience to other members of the team.
so initialy i was given some starter material to work through. this was a training excercise that was also given to other members of the team. Mine was obviously a simplified version. In addition to that I was set up with a number of one on one lessons so as to learn more in depth about the history of the team and what they do, enabling me to do some proper work as soon as possible.

they are very appealing. the money is very good as are the chances of a future promotion. as well as thuis the work life balance is very good and people are told to not work during their holidays. also a large portion of their employees, around 10%, are said to be either an intern or a grad within the next five years or so.
The Culture
yes there was a very good social scene amongst all of us. i went out to drinks and socialise with my colleagues a number of times and found it a very enjoyable and cheap experience. and then with fellow students etc there was always something going on, almost daily. it was extremely enjoyable and i had great fun.
lol.
i worke din central london so not sur ehow much i have to say here. whatever you want, literally whatever, you are almost certiainly guaranteed to find it in london. from the clubs to the theatre, there is somethign for everyone to be able to really enjoy themselves iin london, the greatest city in the world.
Countless opportunites. It was a case of what did i want to do and what itnerested me. i was never held back or stopped from doing somethign that remotely interested me, in face i was actively encouraged to pursue all these thigns and to make sure that i did as much as possible that was as beneifcial as possible for me.
