The Role
It was so much better than I expected! I felt relaxed and my colleagues were very approachable. IT started off slow because I did not yet have access to all the systems I needed. Once that was all sorted, things really picked up and I can honestly say that I enjoyed my time there.
I felt valued by my colleagues to a great extent, especially within the team I was working with because I was in constant contact with them. Furthermore, I felt more valued when I was given projects to do that actually made an impact on and contributed to the work they were doing.
I was very well supported during my internship and also given opportunities to improve a lot of my transferrable skills such as presenting and Microsoft Excel specifically. They all made it easy to communicate with them and were open to my emailing or calling them when I needed help and they were out of the office.
Honestly I was not too busy on a daily basis, the work was not extremely challenging. I was busy during different periods, it depended on what needed getting done, a lot of my project overlapped and sometimes some were more demanding and vice versa. When projects I was working on simultaneously ended then I was less busy.
I feel like I was given quite a bit of responsibility on the internship. I was also given a lot of independence to do my own projects especially with the charity challenge but support was definitely there whenever I needed it. I also felt responsible because of some of the projects I was doing because it was a bit high profile.
I believe the skills I have picked up will assist me in my work/studies to a great extent going forward. For example, I think my confidence to approach senior leaders and build a rapport and develop relationships has vastly improved which is something I will need to do at work or even when it comes to meeting with my lecturers for help during university.
The Company
The general atmosphere was quite relaxed, the office was never too quiet and you could hear light conversation and people laughing which was comforting. I never expected this for a bank, though it would be more rigid. It was also an open plan office which made it easier to approach people. No one was really shut behind closed doors.
I think it was extremely well structured. The Line Managers had guidelines/checklists to follow; the interns had an internship roadmap so we knew what was coming up all the time. We had weekly webinars for the first half of the internship to help us with our personal development and all this made it a well rounded internship.I also got the chance to travel to 4 other cities within the UK!!! The only possible negative was that it took a while to get connected to the system (email, password...)
I think the firm invested in me to a large extent. The opportunities were there to find training and development opportunities and there was also a compulsory training and induction course we all had to complete. As aforementioned, we had the weekly webinars and also had a wealth and vast depth of online resources we could learn from and there was also a lot of on-the-job learning.

Very appealing! The internship feeds directly on to the intake for the graduate scheme, so it’s a fast track but you have to perform well, complete a balance scorecard as you go along and be active in the charity challenge. There is also a strengths based interview with your line manager which is fairly informal so it is not too much pressure.
The Culture
Yes there was. We had a very active Facebook group and it was up to you to take part in it and a lot of people did. Lloyd’s also accommodated the majority if us together so fellow students were literally 5 feet apart since we lived in the same flat!
The cost of accommodation was nothing! Lloyds sorted it out which was really helpful as we could keep most of the money we earned and not spend it all on accommodation. I was even able to afford Deliveroo a couple of times! Food was not really that expensive but it all depends on where you like to shop but being a top city, I think all the main retailers and grocers were available from Aldi all the way to Waitrose. The cost of socialising was not too high, and once again there are a lot of chain restaurants or chains in general around so the prices are nationally constant.
I am a day person and also a foodie so I was not into the Nightlife but I know the city and the Nightlife has a very good reputation. It also has 3 universities so the Nightlife is quite student focused and cheap. I have been out at night though and it seems to be buzzing. Lots of different clubs targeted towards different demographics including age and sexuality.
Yes there were opportunities to get involved. The main outlet for this was the charity challenge where we tried to raise as much money as possible for Children In Need in groups. I was also able to interact with other floors and departments outside my team. I was invited to an Inclusion and Diversity event by a colleague where I got to network with an even wider range of employees at Lloyds.
