The Role
Was given a good insight into the banking world throughout my 10 week placement. I was always kept busy and the majority of the work I did was interesting. The interns also got to attend training sessions to provide us with a better understanding of the different areas of the Bank and regulatory requirements that they face.
My line manager gave me great support throughout my placement. He always made sure that I had enough work to keep me occupied for the day, as well as checking up on me to make sure that I was on track to achieve the goals that I had set myself at the beginning of my placement. He was also more than willing to answer any questions that I had or explain anything I didn't understand.
Throughout my time at LBG I was kept very busy. All the members of the team that I sat on went out of there way to make sure that I had interesting work to keep me going thrpoughout the day, and that I wasn't just sitting idle at my desk. The fact that I was kept busy throughout the day resulted in the days flying by.
The intern training sessions that I attended allowed me to observe the ideas and concepts that I learnt in my finance and economics classes at University applied to real world scenarios. This helped me gain a greater understanding of these concepts for when I went back to University and gave me an edge over my classmates.
The Company
The atmosphere within my team in Edinburgh was great. From my first day I was made to feel part of the team, rather than just an intern. You could tell that the office were not just colleagues, but also friends outside of the office too. This resulted in a relaxed and friendly work atmosphere.
The company heavily invested in the training of the interns. Training sessions on key regulatory concepts were put on, as well as training on the key products that Lloyds can offer. We were also able to attend introductory talks to the other teams within our Business Area, giving us a greater feel for the wider work done outside of our individual teams. Many of the training sessions that we attended were also for graduates, allowing us to grasp what the graduate programme experiece is like. Despite the training sessions being in London while I was based in Edinburgh, the person in charge of the training would always ensure I would be able to dial into the training and that I had a copy of the slides at hand.

Very appealing. The variety of work and teams that you can work with throughout the graduate programme makes this organisation a very attractive prospect to work for full time. The friendly atmosphere amongst all of the employees also makes Lloyds Banking Group a great option for graduating students looking to work in Financial Services.
The Culture
As I am from Edinburgh, I was living at home for my 10 week placement, so my only costs was feeding myself and bus travel to and from work. As far as I am aware, if you do not live within a commutable distance from your office, you are provided with free accomodation which clearly saves the interns a lot of money.
Edinburgh is a vibrant city and there is always something going on. There are many clubs and bars around the centre of town so you will not struggle to find somewhere to go. The placement also takes place at the same time as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, so there are multiple shows taking place and events going on to give you something to do in the evening after work.
One part of the internship is the Charity Challenge, where you are put into teams in your local area and are tasked to raise as much money as possible for Children in Need. This gives you the chance to socilaise with other interns outside of work. In each area of the country there are also Graduates who are put in charge of organising events for the interns and graduates. Within your business area, events are also put on so there is plenty of opportunity to take part in activities outside of the office.
