The Role
I really enjoyed it - I had lots of opportunities to get involved in the business and there were also lots of networking events that I was invited to attend.
Everyone was really welcoming and made a big effort to make me feel comfortable even in the board meetings. There was no such thing as a stupid question so I was able to learn really quickly!
I was given lots of tasks to do and was always able to ask for help if I needed it. My manager also arranged for me to speak to people working in different areas of the business which was good for my development.
I always had something to do which was good as it meant I felt useful and I was never bored.
I was given a report to produce fairly early on during my internship and then presented it at the exco. This meant that I felt like I had a big responsibility and wasn't just being given small tasks for the sake of it.
I think I have definitely grown in confidence during the internship, particularly since I had no prior experience of working for a company and in an office environment. This improved confidence and also the presentation skills that I acquired will take me a long way in my university studies and beyond.
The Company
It was a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Colleagues often decorated the office according to the chosen theme for that quarter and there were often dress down days.
I felt like there was a really good structure to the programme as we had 4 webinars and then were all well-briefed about what was expected from us in terms of our charity challenge, mid-placement review and final interview.
The firm organised an induction day in London at the very beginning of the internship and this was really useful and they paid for our travel on the day. The 4 webinars also were really helpful which ran during the first 5 weeks of the internship.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
It sounds like the company offers a lot of opportunities for future careers and they currently offer places on the grad scheme to 70% of interns.
The Culture
I was in an office on my own so didn't get to socialise much with other interns, although I did meet up with one of the girls in my charity challenge team and there were a couple of events organised in a nearby city on Friday evenings.
I was based in Liverpool so the cost of living was pretty low!
Liverpool has a really good nightlife!
I was based in a call centre where a lot of colleagues work shifts. This meant that there wasn't much opportunity to get involved in events outside of work.
