The Role
Given that I had no experience or background in the bank, I am thoroughly enjoying my experience as I have learnt a lot. I feel confident in my ability to explain my role within the function of BBCD and I feel competent in understanding all the processes and procedures that the function adheres to.
As I am being given tasks that actually need to be completed, I feel that my colleagues value my contributions. As I am not having tasks that effectively won't be contributing to the function created for me, it makes me feel valued. I am also included in staff meetings and conference calls as well as social activity.
My line manager and all other members of senior management have been very approachable when I have needed their help or clarification and also when needing to have greater provisions of work.
I rarely found myself with nothing to do.
I was given the opportunity to work both with senior management in meetings and on private and confidential tasks. I was also given the opportunity to actually directly contact external customers for their feedback which meant that I experienced a customer facing environment first-hand. I also extensively helped create one of the process charts for an official BBCD Excess Management Procedure.
Though my degree isn't directly connected with the bank, the internship enhanced my people skills and kept me constantly flexible to adaptability.
The Company
It was a good balance between professional working environment and fun, sociable chat.
My Discover Learning took a while to set up which meant this delayed my Mandatory Training completion. However, otherwise, I felt very welcome and everything was pretty seamless as I had a log-in and pass all sorted for my access to buildings and systems.
I was able to complete the mandatory training associated with the function which reaffirmed my position as a colleague within the function as oppose to an external intern.

Having also worked with a Graduate, I am confident in my abilities to gain a position on the Graduate Programme.
The Culture
As I don't live with other interns (of my own choice) I haven't really socialised with them, but I do get to see them on a weekly basis at meetings. There are sufficient social media groups which allow for socialising. However, with my internship location, as there was only one other intern on site, it meant that sometimes lunch times etc. could be lonely.
Edinburgh's an expensive city but I knew that anyway - feel like I'm spending all my wages on just getting by. In terms of paying for lunch etc. apart from the available internal canteen, as my site is quite industrial, there aren't really any other options.
Great! Always loved it.
Yep, I had to participate in the Lloyds Charity Challenge anyway.
