The Role
My internship was both enjoyable and insightful.
Intergrating yourself as part of a team can be hard, especially as an intern, but the longer you're there the more you can bring.
My manager, other interns and the intern support team are always there when you need help, being proactive and asking for it is the hard part.
How busy you are fluctuates day to day, hour to hour. In my personal experience i found not enugh work was allocated to me. Yes it can be hard to find work for an intern, when they know nothing about the bank and have had no training but i wish the bank would take more advantage of my eagerness to contribute.
I was given plenty of responsibility. Supporting my line manager meant helping her in terms of delegating and managing the team. This is great as there's plenty of responsibilities to go round. The hard part is actually fulfilling those responsibilities.
My degree is in science, yet my internship was in a managerial position. Having managerial experience is a skill for life. With no previous experince i've learnt so much about people managing that can be applied accross the board. I learnt to be proactive, take responsibility for myself, how to handle others and the importance of socialising/networking and having a great relationship with my colleagues.
The Company
I worked within customer services so there was always something happened, from answeing calls, discussing cases to supporting Children in Need and supporting the Rio 2016 olympics. The atmosphere was always upbeat.
Although there were checks in place to help organise the placement from the placement team, personally, i found the fluctuation in my work hard to deal with. Not having enough to do was a major problem for me.
I do feel the company put a large emphasis on developing its employees. With devleopment webinars, multiple check-ins and a range of resources at hand. However, personal training was lacking.

Very appealing. The company offers a lot to its employeed, its just about whether or not the job is for you.
The Culture
Although there was a social scene, personally i wasn't able to get in touch with those organising the events. This was the same with many other interns i had spoken to. So although te oppertunities were there, getting involved was something you had to be proactive about.
I lived at home as it was closer to my placement but from other interns (scholars) accomodation was paid for and there were attempts to aid in travel.
The nightlife where i worked was not very great, but i know this varies across the different departments, and if i was more interested in the nightlife im sure i could have found more oppertunities.
Personally, no. I wouldnt say getting involved outside of work was encouraged as a priority.
