The Role
I really enjoyed my internship with Lloyds. I have been given the opportunity to work in a number of different areas within the Electronic Payments team and have been tasked with work that I have never experienced before. The induction was great and allowed me to meet other interns who are now friends. The opportunity to travel to different sites as also been great as it has allowed me to meet new people and work in different environments.
From day one I have felt valued by all employees. Everyone was very welcoming towards me and treated me as a full time member of the team and not as a temporary worker. My manager has given me plenty opportunities to communicate and work with senior employees within the bank which makes me seem as though my work is important and of value to people of authority.
Although my manager has been on his honeymoon for a couple of weeks, he has left me in good hands with a band D manager who has ensured that I have important tasks to fill up my day. He has also used this opportunity to get me working within a number of different teams. My line manager has supported me well with my assessment and has gone above and beyond what he needed to do by allowing me to shadow senior members of staff and attend events in both Birmingham and London.
Although no day is the same, I have been kept relatively busy. I have had a few longer term projects which I can work on in my own time – many allowing me to network with other employees from the department. However, between these projects, I have had gaps where I am not busy but this can be expected as it depends on the work available to do with my lack of training and experience.
I feel as though I have been given a great amount of responsibility in my placement. I have been allowed to produce meeting packs which have been used by senior employees when speaking to the board as well as becoming skilled enough to train employees myself on a new system.
feel as though my time management has improved as unlike university, you have opportunities to create your own deadlines so that work does not build up. I feel as though my networking skills have improved and I have made valuable contacts that I can use after university. I am also now able to analyse data and produce a professional standard set of slides or meeting pack that can be used in university presentations and in future work.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. The office was a lot more casual than others that I have been in however, everyone still treated each other like professionals. The hours were flexible which allowed me to keep my part time job on at the same time. Colleagues were also very keen to engage outside of work.
Iitially, there were a few teething problems as I had to wait until I started before ordering me an email account and access to the drives that I required. This meant I didn't get up to much the first week or so as I couldn't access anything. However, after this, I have had a set of well balanced and appropriate projects to do. I also knew what was expected of me before I started due to the induction event.
The company allowed me to undertake all of their standard refresher training in the first week of my placement as well as an optional training course on my department in general. I have also now been taksed with training other members of staff on a new contingency system. I have also had the opportunity to go to different locations such as London and Birmingham to meet senior employees and for additional training. Shadowing days in both managerial roles and floor work have also been provided.

The employment prospects on the graduate scheme seem great. They have a competitive salary and important roles throughout the company. They also come with perks such as a laptop and mobile phone. The graduates are also treated with respect and allowed to develop further up the organisation. The 3 8 month placements also look like a great idea in order to network and experience a new city.
The Culture
Yes, this was great. After meeting other interns at the induction, we have all met up for dinner and drinks on several occasions. The fact that Lloyds allowed us to work on projects together throughout our time at work also helped us to socialise. The rest of my department are also organising an office party in order for colleagues to socialise out of a work environment.
As I already go to university in Glasgow I didn't have to pay for any accomoidation. Although, I know other interns who lived further away were provided with free accomodation. Glasgow is also very cheap for a night out in comparision to other UK cities. There is also a huge variety of restaurants and other activies to do within a very short and cheap travel distance.
The nightlife is good. No matter what type of music you are in to there seems to be something for everyone. As a few of the itnerns (myself included) already live in Glasgow, we were able to direct the other interns on where to go based on what they liked. The music scene is also great, with a number of bands visiting over the course of the placement period.
As I work another job, I could not do much outside of work. However, there were a number of charity events being held otuside of work such as race nights and cocktail making classes. The charity challenge also allowed us to run our own events outside of work such as a krispy kreme sale and a sub crawl in Glasgow.
