The Role
Very enjoyable 10 weeks, There was a fair amount of work but the people and framework made for very enjoyable day to day life and a good balance.
Everyone was very open to questions in the first few weeks and adapted the workload as I learnt new skills and gained confidence each week,
My development officer and mentor were both extremely friendly and happy to answer any questions I had in the first few weeks.
Most days were perfectly balanced however given the nature of IB it was also common to have a "slow" day, whether it only be an individual or several of the interns as associates went for training.
They gave us the right amount of responsibility throughout the internship, ranging from small task with large explanations in the first weeks to large, more independent tasks in the final weeks.
The skills I've learnt have definitely prepared me for my future career, and the people have also given me a very good idea of the career progression possible in this industry
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was surprisingly jovial, with everyone happy to crack jokes when the work was going well, and equally happy to help each other out whenever there were issues or difficulty. Drinks and events made for fantastic opportunities to meet new people and teams, as well as senior management
The internship was very well organised, with the correct amount of "classical" teaching events in the first week, followed by entering into the real thing and being taught from the inside along the way. Weekly talks also gave valuable insight into the workings of the Bank worldwide as well as the careers of the most senior members of management.
The company and especially the individuals within each team took an incredible amount of time to patiently and thoroughly walk us all through the tasks, as well as instill the values of precision and perfectionism needed to create high standard products. Everyone was always very open and accommodating to our requests.

The bank has possibly the most appealing future prospects for employment as not only do they offer a large proportion of the interns jobs, they also try to get them into the teams best suited to their abilities. A clear and regular promotion pattern also ensures that you don't get bored in one same pattern of work and are constantly learning new things.
The Culture
The interns all got along extremely well, many of them having done the Bank's spring or summer insight programs. Bank drinks and dinners were the initial occasions to meet new people, but we then took things into our own hands, often meeting for drinks or to explore on the weekends and after work ended.
OF course, London is already quite an expensive city, and the City is no exception to that rule! However, the food available around Paternoster Square was all of extremely high quality and it was near impossible to have a bad meal; in that sense you definitely got value for your money.
The nightlife in the City is very much week based, however the Teams made a point of making us all try different venues and different scenes throughout the first few weeks of the internship. A large variety of pubs, bars, and clubs as well as ping pong venues, board game bars made for a very fun time!
There were definitely opportunities to get involved in sports in the evenings, however my particular team finished later than most so couldn't always enjoy them! However the Bank always encouraged us to go to charity events such as the run in Battersea so we could find the correct balance of life.
