The Role
I had a fantastic time! Standard Life has such a fantastic company atmosphere which makes coming into work very enjoyable.
My colleagues made me feel very welcome, everyone is very kind and friendly and I felt like they valued all the work I was doing.
Just the right amount of support. There's plenty of opportunity to learn and find things out for yourself, and also to experiment with ways of producing various pieces of work, but there is also always someone there to answer any questions you have and support you when you are struggling with a piece of work.
I was never completely stressed and run off my feet but at the same time I always had pieces of work on the go or new work to begin.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, producing work important pieces of work and I was given more responsibility as time went on.
I gained lots of skills in my job such as producing reports, presentations, data tables, etc. which will help me with my degree studies and future employment. I also gained general experience in the workplace, which will definitely assist me in future employment. Standard Life also ran training and skills sessions for all of the interns to attend, so I learnt extra skills through this beyond the skills gained through my daily work.
The Company
Everyone in the office was very friendly and made me feel very happy and comfortable but the professional, workplace atmosphere was still maintained.
The internship was very well set up. There was a structured learning programme with skills and learning sessions for the interns to attend which occurred each week, we did presentations at the end of the internship about our time on the internship and opportunities provided for us to socialise with each other.
I felt our training and development was highly invested in, with weekly skills sessions such as presentation skills and information on different career paths.

I'd love to work with this company in the future and hope to return!
The Culture
There was opportunities for the interns to socialise with a social committee set up which organised a ceilidh for us to go to. Also a lot of the interns were put up in accommodation together, which provided easy opportunities for us to get to know each other and it was very social in the evenings and at weekends.
Cost of living for me was nothing as Standard Life provided accommodation for those of us who were not from Edinburgh. The cost of socialising was fairly cheap however prices did increase around the time of the fringe festival.
Lots of pubs and bars and lots of clubs to go to as well. Nightlife was fantastic especially once the fringe festival started, with pop-up bars and lots of shows to attend.
The social committee ran a few activities. We tended to organise things to do between ourselves, such as going to fringe shows, going to the meadows, etc.
