The Role
A friendly office culture with interesting work makes it hard not to enjoy your time here.
There was always a huge amount of support available. You could approach anyone in the company, no matter their seniority, and they would usually be willing to give up their time to help you. A few people in particular would always stop by to see how you were progressing and offer any advice they could give.
I had a lot of autonomy over the work I did on a daily basis, so 'how busy' you are is very self-determined. Since I found the work engaging, I would always be busy.
You are entirely responsible for your own work. The majority of the work involves you forming your own view on a business/industry of which you are accountable for. Essentially you are expected to try to carry out the work of a full time analyst, but with different expectations. Fidelity want to see you learn and progress, regardless of the extent of your prior knowledge (be it something or nothing).
Since I study Physics, the transference of skills is limited... but the internship will of course prepare you for the workplace in a more general sense.
The Company
Friendly and supportive. Everyone at Fidelity has a healthy work-life balance - there aren't the silly hours and face time that can be found elsewhere in the finance industry.
An incredibly well structured internship. Fidelity really do afford the interns a lot of time and resources - it's important to them that they invest in people early on.
A lot of people at Fidelity really will go out of their way to help you; they want to see you be the best that you can be.
Company Parties/Events
Fidelity commands lasting loyalty due to the fact that it is a desirable place to work.
The Culture
The fellow interns are a great bunch of people. Most of us lived together in the accommodation Fidelity provided, which led us to get to know each other very well.
Free accommodation + good pay = cost of living is a non issue. It's London so socialising is not going to be a problem.
As I have said before, it's London.
Horse racing, dragonboat racing, after work drinks...
