The Role
I enjoyed my time here. I felt it was a great introduction into what life is like actually working here. The work is challenging and mentally stimulating. People here are on the whole very friendly and willing to help you out with work. I also appreciated how the internship had a definite structure.
I felt quite valued by my colleagues. They were always happy to answer my questions and give advice on my work. On top of this, they took an active interest in my progress. There was a buddy system set up whereby we had a graduate mentor to ensure this happened successfully.
Management on the whole were fairly response to my questions. I felt I was able to visit them adn ask them question whenever. However, it was quite unclear as to what we were being assessed on in the internship as well as what the desired criteria for success were.
I had a busy schedule. For most of the day I was working on my stock pitch which meant reading financial statements, building my model and writing my thesis. In addition, I attended several meetings were we learnt about the other areas of the business as well as about different investment styles.
I did not have responsibility in the sense that my work did not have any material impact on the business. My work was purely for the purpose of management being able to assess the effectiveness of my ability as an analyst. However, I was entrusted to work by myself at my own pace for the duration of the internship.
In terms of my degree, the skills of time management and productivity come in useful for studying. Moreover, the skills learnt during my internship would help massively if I decided to pursue a career in asset management as I have learnt the basic of investing. On top of this, I have practiced real financial analysis and received feedback from experienced financial professionals.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and social. I felt I was able to work independently and at my own pace. I also felt able to ask my colleagues any questions I had. In addition, there was a lot of joking and good vibes between me and the other interns. The volume was generally quite quiet as everyone was focused on their work.
The internship was very well organised. There was a calendar of activities throughout the 8 weeks. I was always aware as to what should I be doing and where I was in the overall scope of the internship. We were given this calendar in physical and online form so everyone was aware as to what they had coming up that week.
The firm invested a good amount of resources in training the interns. We were taught macroeconomics, finance and accounting at Kaplan. In addition, we also received training at Bloomberg as to how use their equipment. We also received great in house training in the forms of meetings with senior staff.

I am definitely considering a place at the organisation in the future. The intellectual culture, good work life balance and stimulating work are all attractive traits for me. In addition, the firm is well placed within the asset management industry as a whole given its strong reputation and brand name.
The Culture
Yes. All the interns were very friendly and socialised together. There were regular lunches out. On top of this there were also several nights out where the interns could socialize in an informal environment. I did not excessively participate in the social scene as I had other commitments at the time.
I lived and worked in London so are cost of living was high relative to other parts of the country. The firm provided free accommodation to interns which helped reduce the cost for those from outside London. I lived at home with parents and did not go out much to buy food so was not particularly affected by higher prices in the area.
The nightlife was great. It was in a very lively area filled with young professionals so the bars and restaurant were always buzzing during the lunch hour and after work. On top of this, Shoreditch was only 15mins away which I had an array of clubs to choose from if that’s your cup of tea.
There some social events thrown outside of work hours to help the interns mingle. However, apart from that there was no clubs or societies. This was because of the medium sized nature of the firm as well the long hours involved in the job. Consequently, there was not much desire or capability to have activities outside of work.
