    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it a lot. It was great to have rotations, so I spent my first rotation in Reward and my second in Employee Relations. I got different and varied experiences in both. It was also great to have various assessments which focused on other aspects such as Diversity and let us know about the firm as a whole. There was a massive intern collaborative group and community feel, and the employees were great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone on my team was great. It was good to meet different people and know about their experiences. Everyone was happy to talk to the interns and explain stuff and also to help out with other stuff such as telling us about themselves and what they have done and things they wish they could do differently and so on.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was amazing. Never did she try and coerce me into liking the job or taking the GTP program. It was always about me finding out what I liked best and doing what is best for me. She sat me down and explained my options and asked about my experiences every week. She was great, and so were my rotation managers.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days, I was really busy and it was hard to find time off. but other days, it would be more relaxed. I always had work to do though, and it was an opportunity for me to practice my time management skills as well. it depends on the work on the day., but generally quite busy.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot! It was surprising at times how valued the work I did was. The presentations we made are actually going to be used as training material, and the emails we send out are to external clients and important people. We had exposure to many people, right from GMDs to entry level employees.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do Medicine at uni, so being in HR is directly linked, but it was still great to have all the experience and to learn lots, because it was a massive learning experience. It is not directly linked to my uni course, but that is because I chose it not to be.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is an open floor which meant that each team can see the other teams. Everyone talks to everyone and it was great to see relationships between colleagues. I felt comfortable talking to the others both on my team and in the nearby teams. There were stuff like office Olympics and public speaking events which us, as interns, could get involved with and made us feel really part of the team.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very organized, as we had a booklet, and timetable, and our calendars were always up to date. We had speaker events where we had inspiring speakers come in and talk to us, and we had social events too. everything started on time, and everything was really clear.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had inspiring speakers. We also set personal development goals, which were evaluated against. I gained something even if I do not take the grad job, or even if I don't take up the grad job. it was definitely worth my time here.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are keen to have us on the grad recruitment scheme which is nice to know. We also got told a lot about the grad scheme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! We had common intern socials which were great to go to. It was wonderful the way it was organized, and it was good to see the organized there too. Us interns also organized social stuff of our own which was good as we felt really part of the community, we were also invited to leaving drinks and stuff from the floor and HR team too.

    5/5

  • London is expensive!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has a great night-life.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were encouraged to get involved in community work and volunteering and so on. Some of that were already organized for us, and that was good to go to and great fun to take part in. We also had leaving drinks and social events. We also had to organize the HR Office Olympics event and a lot of responsibility is placed on us to do that.
