The Role
I had a great time during my internship, there was a great balance between work and social events. I had the chance to work on a number of different clients giving me a good insight to the day-to-day job of an auditor.
I was certainly made to feel like I was a permanent member of staff at BDO. I was lucky enough to be invited to the company 5 a-side football tournament in Liverpool which really made me feel like I was a part of the team. Travelling to different clients could have also provided difficult but all of my colleagues were willing to go out of there way to give me a lift.
As an auditor some of the work I was doing was very technical but both management and the trainees were more than willing to answer any questions I had about my work and provided feedback on anything that could have been changed/improved.
Throughout the duration of the internship I think I spent a total of 7 days in the office with the remainder of my time spent at client sites. Whilst at client sites I was extremely busy and always had something I was working on. During my time in the office there was the odd day where I didn't have too much to do but that is expected when your skill set is limited and everyone tried there best to find me something I could get on with.
As I got to the last few weeks of the internship my workload became increasingly more technical which was nice to see that my manager trusted me to work on some of the more technical parts of an audit. There was times when my workload consisted of the odd repetitive tasks but again this is expected when my experience is so limited.
The internship gave me a greater understanding of financial statements which will benefit me with finance modules in my final year of university. The internship also allowed me to significantly develop my excel skills which will benefit for a number of statistics modules at university.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was relaxed and everyone got on really well.
The overall internship set up of the internship was brilliant. All hotels and travel were organised and provided by the company and the days spent in the Birmingham and London offices were great opportunities to get to know the other interns. During my time in Leeds I went into each day knowing the work for the day which meant i was not reliant on asking others for work.
By the end of the internship I was working on some fairly complex parts of an audit and was trusted with some important jobs.

Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, the company invests a lot in the development of their trainees and career progression looks very promising.
The Culture
The social side of the internship definitely surpassed the expectations I had going into it. The training week in Birmingham had three social evenings and London also had a night out. During my time at the Leeds office I had two nights out with the staff in Liverpool when we went to the football tournament as well as a number of nights where we went out for drinks after work.
Leeds is very reasonable to socialise with a number of different options depending on preference.
Leeds is known for having an excellent nightlife and it certainly lived up to its reputation.
The work football tournament was an excellent opportunity to get involved and get to know the rest of the staff. Although having not spent that much time in the office it is difficult to get involved in opportunities outside of work.
