The Role
The placement was very good to gain an insight of what a full-time IT job was like. The work however was very repetitive and soon become boring doing the same thing day in day out.
All of the colleagues were very helpful and as I was carrying out the same work the full-time staff were I felt and was treated as an equal in the office despite my intern status.
Couldn't have been more helpful. There is a massive network of managers and senior staff who were always willing to help, they were very approachable and were always happy to explain something or give advise when needed.
Most time I was very busy and other times I was not so much. It depends how much work came in on a daily basis. Overall, I always had some work to be doing.
I was given the same responsibility as the full time staff there and dealt with major clients, so a lot I would say.
The skills I learnt were very specific to the software I was working with, I do not feel that I will be using any of them in the future.
The Company
It was rather a typical office, quite boring with not much going on. However, my colleagues made me welcome.
IBM have lots of interns and have been running this program for years. They are very experienced at bringing in interns and the process was very well organised.
I received a great deal of training and I feel some of the training programs would have been quite expensive for the company.
Subsidised Canteen
I would like to return to IBM but not in the role I held previously
The Culture
There were a lot of interns at the location I was at. There were always nights out and events going on organised externally by the interns.
Just outside London, not very cheap and you do not get a lot for your money there.
Long way from any decent nightlife areas. Needed a 20 minute taxi to the nearest place or a trip to London but this was still quite far away.
There were a few but not many.
