The Role
As much as a young person stuck in an office for 10 weeks can. I enjoyed the cumulative learning process of the internship and feeling more confident as time went by. Whilst at first I wasn't initially in love with banking law, the more I got stuck into the internship the more the finer details became engaging.
Really kind and supportive team. Although I was the youngest member of the by 10+ years, they made me feel very welcome and were genuinely interested in making sure my time here was as full as possible. I learnt a lot from their own individual experience which helped me to shape my future plans.
Fantastic support from my supervisor. We had weekly catch ups to discuss the work I had been up to and very conscientious to make sure I was happy and enjoying the work. This was peppered with daily chats and a constant willingness for me to ask if I had any questions or struggles with work.
As someone who would always like to be very busy rather than very bored, there was invariably moments where I felt I wish I had more to do. However, within the scope of what I was able to do (limited given non-legal experience) I enjoyed a great breadth of work with different members of the team.
As the internship progressed, I was given more responsibility accordingly. Obviously not being a qualified lawyer, there was only so much of the work I could do. However, by the end of the internship I was interacting with clients independently and giving advice. I also got given larger client projects to focus on which I enjoyed as it gave me something to get my teeth stuck into.
Given I was unsure before whether I was interested in law, this internship was invaluable in giving me an extended insight into the career for 10 weeks. As I am not studying law at university, there would have been no better way to get a feel for the career. Also, working in an office for 10 weeks and learning the ropes of replying to emails etc. has also been surprisingly useful too.
The Company
Almost overly well organised. Very clear process of the path of the internship and when interviews were to be held. Completed a balanced score card to focus on our personal development over the internship to help track progress.
I had lots of events put on for me and opportunities to meet people and learn from them. I went to London for a day and attended numerous training workshops.

I am still undecided as to whether I would want to work for them. The Grad scheme is quite a significant commitment and it is not necessarily for me yet at this stage.
