The Role
I really enjoyed my Lloyds Banking Group internship. I felt my position as a team member was valued, and I felt the work I carried out was worthwhile, and contributed towards my learning and understanding of the groups key values and aims. I never felt that my work was belittled or that I was ever looked down on. All my team members treated me as an equal. They involved me in both work and social activities and I think that this helped my enjoyment.
My colleagues treated me like family from day one. They were all very welcoming and accomadating. Even with all of my health problems they helped to make me feel comfortable. They praised my good work, and helped to remind me that I wasn't 'just an intern' that I was a valued member of the team.
My supervisors were always there to offer support whether it be in or out of office hours. They were always on hand to offer advice, or listen to any questions I may have had. They never felt troubled by me, and helped to guide me when I needed any additional support.
I was provided with an adequate workload throughout my internship. Enough work to keep me busy, but not so much that I felt swamped. I juggled both intern charity challenges and work set by my line manager, and I felt I achieved the right balance. My line manager worked with me so that we found the right balance of work for me, and I found this really helped.
I was expected to deal with a relatively large amount a responsibility during my internship with the Lloyds Banking Group. I dealt with extremely confidential information regarding site closures. In addition, I worked with important documents which if deleted, or edited incorrectly could not be replaced or rectified easily by members of staff.
Whilst interning with Lloyds Banking Group, I learnt a number of invaluable skills. I completed a number of courses in Microsoft Excel, which will help me in my studies and future life. I also built my confidence and ability to influence through the utilisation of online courses and peer-to-peer learning.
The Company
Everyone in the office is so helpful and cheerful. No one ever complains and they are all ever so helpful. Everyone is really friendly, and eager to make you feel involved. They are all really polite, generous and kind. It seems like a lovely place to work and everyone seems happy to be here.
I think the internship was set up really well. The team had work ready for me to complete once I had arrived, and were eager for me to get started on projects. The only downside is that I had to wait for access to certain files and drives. I also think access to the building could be better organised, and we could be signed in for the whole internship, rather than weekly to save our line mangers time?
My team allowed me to take a number of hours out of internship to complete courses that would be beneficial to my own personal development such as building my confidence and my influential skills. I really appreciated this. I didnt feel as though they just wanted me to complete mundane tasks. They wanted me to actually come out of my internship with something that would impact my life.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I genuinely feel that after completing my internship, I have been put in a good position to gain future employment within Lloyds Banking Group. I feel that my team have done their best to utilise my time in the best possible way giving me invaluable experience and allowing me to gain extensive knowledge in numerous areas and processes.
The Culture
My fellow interns were great to socialise with. They were very keen to meet up for lunch or socilaise outside of working hours. They were always there to have a chat to for support or advice, or any other matter. It was nice to be placed into a company and automatically have a group of friends that you can socailaise with who have similar interests and hobbies.
The work canteen was quite expensive, although the starbucks was really good value! I think if you were planning on having lunch at work it would be better if you were to bring your own, rather than buy it every day, as you will end up spending a small fortune every day. The offices have relatively cheap vending machines as well as free water, tea and coffee which is great.
Leeds is great for a night out. It has a great music scene, and plenty of places to eat and drink. The people are always friendly and there is always something to do. I'm not an expert on the clubs, but the arena is great, and the smaller gig venues are really good as well. Some of the best bands touring always make a point of playing Leeds.
Outside of work there were a number of activites to get involved with. Although I commuted to Leedsa for my internship, so it wasn't something which I was often involved with. There were activities which involved both fundraising and socilaising that ranged from days out, to evening meals. The interns as a whole also arranged nights out for us to socialise which was nice.
