The Role
I have felt very valued by my colleagues. My colleagues trust me to complete the tasks I am set, that are actually improving the business, and have made use of my work in developing the business. I have been treated like a normal employee. I have regularly been given feedback without having to request it and have been given guidance for improvement. My team has very actively tried to ensure I have had a good experience as well as producing meaningful work during my time here.
My managers have been very supportive when I have needed support, and I have had semi-regular contact and recognition from management well above my grade. I have never been made to feel I have asked a stupid question, and my team has a very comfortable team working atmosphere. There has been a structured grading system that has been regularly revisited ensuring I always know the areas I can be working on.
I've been given a reasonable amount of work, tasks that the team wans done rather than just conjuring up for me to do. I've found however that I often complete these in significantly less time than expected, with the tasks not really being very complex. I have had issue with the difficulty of the work here, and at times have found this demotivating.
I have been set personal tasks that are working towards my team's, and the wider Group's goals. I have been trusted to complete these in my way, and my team have used my findings towards their annual targets. My work has delivered over 10% of one of my team's key targets, and I have been left to explore a new software system to assess it's capabilities for the team. I have been given work that is leaving a lasting legacy for my team.
I have not developed any hard skills I had not already picked up from my degree, but my soft skills have developed considerably - e.g. time management, work place manner, confidence etc. I think these will put me in good stead going forward, and my managers have supported me in this development actively. I have been slightly disappointed at the lack of opportunity to work with more complex analysis however, or statistical computing packages for example.
The Company
Everyone I have encountered has been very friendly, and supportive of me professionally. I have never been made to feel like 'just an intern'. The office culture is very relaxed, with a real emphasis on team work and office cohesion. I have had contact with many stakeholders across the Group, and people have been very accomodating when I have asked to learn more about different areas.
I arrived and already had my workspace set up with online systems ready. My line managers had already agreed on specific and stretching tasks for me to complete before I had arrived. Through the internship I was well supported, and the review process was very well structured, with regular manager progress meetings. I had been allocated time with various teams, all of whom had real, useful work ready for me.
I have been supported well by my managers, and have always been able to freely ask questions about processes and systems. However there was little in the way or formal training, which could have been useful in the beginning of the programme. However in terms of development opportunities, I have been supported well when I have requested different tasks or visits to other teams.

I have yet to finish the programme, but from feedback from my managers I am fully expecting to be offered a role on the graduate scheme at the end of the internship. The grad scheme seems well structured and well rewarded but I personally feel I probably intend to work in a different sector post university. Therefore I am unlikely to accept the position.
The Culture
As expected on a programme such as this, a minority of the students are very social, a minority very antisocial and the rest somewhere in between. There has been a large group of interns placed in my region and I have made friends who I am keen to hang out with out of work hours.
I was placed in Bristol for this internship. Bristol is renowned for its student nightlife, and Lloyds Banking Group gave most of the interns placed here free accomodation in the centre of the city, a 5 minute walk from many great bars and clubs. In this respect we have been very lucky and it has been a great area to spend a summer.
