The Role
I got a placement in the team that fitted my interests really well, I could use the knowledge gained in the University in my work on daily basis and I got a lot of insights about the banking industry in UK, which will be useful for me in my future studies.
The colleagues in my team showed that they appreciate having me in a team on daily basis, they checked regularly if I am doing fine, if I need any help or guidance. I received only constructive feedback about my work throughout the whole period. One of the factors which made my internship great were members of my team.
I couldn't ask for anymore support or guidance than I received. Although my line manager spent nearly half of my internship on a holiday, I had an amazing support from other team members, which included weekly 1:1 sessions with a senior manager and a manager from my team. I had a freedom to decide what should we discuss in this sessions, and they helped me to deepen my understanding of my team's role in the Finance of LBG, and also, general understanding of the industry.
There were days when I wasn't too busy, as well as days when I came in early and left later because of the workload, but that was due to the nature of my team's role in the group - there are periods in month when the whole team is very busy, and there are periods with relaxed atmosphere.
I believe I was given as much responsibility as they could give me considering my role. I had a chance to work on the slides that go directly to the Board, and I was trusted to do checking for documents that my team issues to Group Executives, which is a big responsibility.
My role fitted my past and future education perfectly. For my 4th and last year of studies I plan to do MSc in International Banking and Finance, and the things I learned during this internship will be truly valuable for me. Also, it helped me get used to English financial terminology, as I finished my Undergrad degree in other language.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally good / although there was a big difference in behavior of people before the HY News Release and after - after the issue of NR, everyone became more relaxed and easy going. However, at all times it felt good to be in my office surrounded by colleagues.
The HR could do a better job - it took them a while to get back to me with some crucial information, and it affected my first few weeks of internship - I believe this was due to inexperience with international interns who just came to UK for the internship. The induction event we had in London was unnecessary and tiring, it could be easily skipped. As for my placement, it was organized well, although the role I got is maybe not the best for an intern, given that the outputs of my team are really high-level, so only a limited responsibility could have been given to me. Also, I started my internship in the busiest period of the year, so my team members struggled to find time to instruct me - but they did it anyway.
My team as a whole invested a lot into my development since the start of my internship - I had few people from the team mentoring me and answering to all of my questions. I am not sure if this was my team - or if it is the company's policy though, as it seems that the other interns didn't have so much mentoring available to them. Also, as an intern, I had opportunity to participate in multiple trainings organised for my team, which helped me develop more skills.

Very appealing. LBG seems like a solid company to work for, especially if you want to do finance and still have a good work-life balance. A place on graduate scheme would give me security to finish my degree without worrying about finding a job later on - which would be a true asset for me.
The Culture
Yes, there was, although I haven't participated in it that much, as my personal choice. I became very good friend with few interns/scholars, but I haven't participated in group activities that much. This is probably due to my personal preference and stage of life, as well as my interests.
Edinburgh is not very expensive, so the salary we received was sufficient for nice life, especially because we had our accommodation provided by LBG. I didn't think too much about spending, nor did I try to save money, and despite that I managed to save a lot of money for later.
Good, although I wasn't going out that much, again as my personal choice, not the lack of choice. There are quite few clubs to choose from, and there are lot of events around the city, especially during the Fringe festival, so it is never boring. When I look back, I am sorry that I didn't go out more during the internship.
