The Role
I enjoyed it as I felt I learnt a lot of new skills as well as learnt a lot of what the job entailed
I felt very valued by my colleagues in general as I was on live deals where my deliverables were very important to meet client deadlines
This was a mix between a lot and a little. Most teams were very helpful, however, some expected us to know everything from day one and allowed no mistakes. This was unreasonable in my view (having interns work for me in my previous job) as it was a completely different industry and job nature. For instance, I had to build a valuation from scratch for one deal and unfortunately I made a few errors that were not critical, however, the reception I received was very negative with the manager expecting me to make no mistakes even though it was my first valuation.
Extremely, this was a positive as I learnt a lot and the time flew by.
I was given a lot of responsibility which included building a live model for a valuation as well as leading client presentation creations.
I feel the skills are very important and helped me a lot when it comes to financial skills and sector knowledge, presentation and structure.
The Company
This again depends a lot on the teams. Some teams had a very strong positive atmosphere and some it felt like no one smiled or laughed.
I believe this could be improved in the sense that in a pool system for associates, it should be structured in a way that one doesn't end up working too much with a team that might not have headroom for hiring. Additionally, reviews should be based on the team view of you as a whole, not strongly biased to an individual who might have wholly worked with you.
I feel the company really invests on an overall viewpoint in your development.
No Idea on this as we haven't been told as of yet (mainly worked with one team who with two weeks to go told the associates that there wasn't going to be any headroom in the team)
The Culture
Definitely every associate ended up getting along and we had like minded personalities
London is an expensive city but our pay helps us enjoy it
Nightlife in London is great over the weekends. During the week, no chance to go out for dinner or drinks.
There was too much work to do anything outside of work during the week.
