The Role
I extremely enjoyed my placement with Arup. It provided me with a platform where I could freely express my engineering skills on a day-to-day basis.
Right from the first day I felt like a valued member of the engineering team.
Arup supported me with various training schemes as well mentorship from a graduate 'buddy' and senior engineer. Also the open door policy provided a comfortable working environment where I was able to interact and ask any questions where I was not certain.
Our team had a resource schedule and a resource leader who ensured you were busy and making the most of your placement.
My level of responsibility increased through the course of the placement - going from supporting senior engineers to leading on a design process.
The skills I have developed have massively helped me in my degree as I have been able to choose a final year dissertation topic and build on my engineering skills
The Company
The general atmosphere was conducive for working
It was well organised as I was always kept busy with interesting projects.
I was provided with an ICE accredited mentor who mentored me to achieve some ICE development objectives.

Arup has a magnificent graduate programme which I would like to be a part of.
The Culture
It was a very good social scene ranging from weekly 5 a side football, christmas and summer parties to monthly payday drinks.
It was moderately high as you would expect with living in a big city.
There is a good selection of pubs and night clubs in Manchester
Yes, we had weekly 5 a side football.
