The Role
This is the second internship that I completed at M&G Investments and I have entirely confirmed my very positive opinion on the firm.
One of the nicest thing about M&G is that you will never feel 'the intern', but a valuable employee, adding value to the team, working independently and respected by the team. You always get involved in whatever the team does and people are interested in who you are and where you come from. I can speak generally because, not only due to my last two work experiences, but having spoken to interns from this and the previous year.
I feel blessed with my manager. She has been such an inspiring figure for me: kind, gentle, sweet but also very assertive. She is a motivator, but gives you independence also allowing you to do your mistakes - which is the best way to learn and gain confidence.
Fairly busy - as for this internship, I got very important and big projects. As a result, I have worked quite independently being able to organize my work as I reckon.
Big responsibilities which made me feel a value adding asset to the team. On top of this, I have learnt so much, about the business, about my unit, and made some great contacts because of the project I was given.
I would suggest to every student to do relevant work experience as soon as possible while studying. You will go back to your studies thinking what it is useful to learn - rather than study for the exam - for your career. This internship gave me a long-term view on my professional development and it also motivated me to deliver more and more. On the other hand, the experience was great in terms of personal development and especially soft-skills.
The Company
Friendly, flat structure, helpful and stimulating
Very well structured - I had weekly catch up with my manager and updates on my work.
It has to be noticed that it is only 8 weeks, it is not a lot that you can do in terms of training in 8 weeks if you also have work to do, a new unit to adapt and many things to learn. Given the above, I am quite happy with the training presentation we received. However, as a Commercial intern, considering that many positions within the commercial will be within or in contact with the front office, I would say that making them a bit more technical would be advisable.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I can see a long-term career within this company and I hope I can develop within it, always being tested by new challenges.
The Culture
Absolutely - we all got along very well, went out after working hours and enjoyed the summer in London together.
It's very expensive, but we get a good salary. However, yes, London is very expensive.
The area is surrounded by pubs
We got a few, good balance with the work, which I have all enjoyed. Maybe a couple more events at night?
