    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my placement. I was placed on a very large project with a huge amount of construction activity which has given me a huge insight into the industry as well as a lot of experience. I was given a huge amount of responsibility by the company and put in charge of some very important projects. All of this has created an extremely enjoyable placement and confirmed my passion for both the industry as well as the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very beginning I was treated as a professional by all my colleagues on site, they spoke to me and assigned me tasks as any other would on site. I instantly felt part of the team and felt comfortable approaching any of them. They all gave me support and both helped me with what I needed as well as returning the favor by helping them out too.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager gave me a vast amount of support, by giving me some very big tasks it proved that he had a lot of faith in me to get the job done. While I was assigned personal tasks, I was still able to approach my manager for help and guidance to ensure that I completed the task correctly and efficiently.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I worked almost non stop from 8-5 every day. There was always work to be done whether it be tasks by myself, as a team or assisting other collages. There was never a moment when I was sat doing nothing. I would a number of site visits every day as well as attend meetings, complete my personal tasks and much more.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the very beginning I was given a huge amount of responsibility, my manager set me some very big tasks in the very early days and as I proved myself, the more he gave me. This gave me so much confidence which pushed me to do more and more. I was given just as much responsibility as any of my other colleagues all whom work full time.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This experience will greatly improve my final year of studies as I have had first-hand experience of so many different elements of a site. On the site that I was working on, both construction and fit out had been combined. This gave me exposure to the whole cycle of a construction project. It has given me a much better understanding of how a construction site is managed as well how different technologies are installed and function.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was fantastic, there was a perfect balance between hard work and having a laugh with everyone. Everybody in the office got on with each other very well. While everyone still got all their work done, I will have made connections as well as friends for the rest of my life.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organization of the work placement was also brilliant. Throughout the whole application process all the way through the placement there was always a smooth process which introduced me to the company, set me up and encouraged me throughout. There were no problems throughout the whole process and everyone was treated extremely professionally at all times.

  • Both my manager and my colleagues all values my help greatly. They pushed me through tasks and encouraged me at all times by teaching me as well as allowing me to learn by myself. They obviously want what is very best for me and help me develop into the best professional possible and in turn, hopefully I will be able to give It all back to the company.

  • I have always wanted to work for this specific company and this placement has been able to give me a much wider understanding of the company. The placement has just confirmed my beliefs in the company and made me want a full time job even more. I am extremely hopefully of gaining a place on the full time graduate scheme with the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene between both fellow placement and colleagues. There were a number of events organized for placement students to get together and network which was done both individually and through the company. With my colleagues in the office, we often had social events together which made the placement even ore enjoyable and allowed me to both network as well as socialize.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living wasn't a problem for me as I commuted from where I live already. The huge benefit was that the company paid for my transport both to and from the site every day. This meant that my living costs were minimal. Socially, the area is fairly expensive but because of the pay and the money I saved on transport, this was not a problem.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being London, the nightlife was extremely good. While I didn't take huge advantages of this, the opportunity was always there. When I did take advantage of this, it was extremely good and very enjoyable. This would be the perfect location for anybody to work.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many different activities outside of work, the company allows for days for charity and well as volunteering. If I was to have a full time job there is the opportunity to join sports clubs and other kind of societies which would make working life even more enjoyable.
