The Role
I had a very SLOW start. Following, however, my placement got very exciting. I have had real responsibilities and fun projects. Always ask for work should you feel you are bored at work!
Everyone in my department valued my work, in fact they have asked me to extend my placement over summer.
Manager tended to be quite busy, but always tried to make time if necessary. Various supervisors I had throughout the year were very happy to help me.
As previously mentioned, beginning phase I was bored, but it later got better.
I have had a number of "dull" tasks but also very important projects. In retrospective, I can now see that the 'dull' tasks were given to me to 'test' me before being given more important projects.
Project management and time management are two skills which will help me immensely in my final years of university.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was nice, people were very nice and helpful. Yet, I wouldn't say that 'the fun never stopped'.
I have met other interns during my placement; I know that their internship was much more well structured than mine. Mine didn't feel well structured at first; I had too much free time.
Company does invest in training people. There is a whole internal training centre dedicated to this task. Throughout my year, I have attended a couple of helpful trainings.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
The graduate program Rolls-Royce offers is outstanding.
The Culture
10/10 when all the summer interns and year-long interns met up regularly. 3/10 when the summer interns left! I wish there had been more team dinners/gatherings.
Derby is very cheap to live...yet not amazing.
Nightlife is there, but it isn't amazing.
