The Role
It was extremely varied and thanks to my great line manager well explained.
Very much so, I was given time critical tasks that were important to a range of on going projects, therefore my value to my colleagues was significant and in turn I did feel valued.
This is the main outstanding point of the internship, my manager and my team as a whole were very supportive and helped with anything I asked.
On some days I was extremely busy but on occasions once my daily routine was complete there would be little to do, but this is the nature of the markets.
Almost immediately I was given a range of tasks that I continued to complete during the internship, the result of these tasks and reports was sent by me to many senior individuals.
The rage of financial knowledge and skills I have gained will help me in my final year of my degree as well as help me in my future career.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very busy and active. There was a real buzz to the trading floor but all the people on it were more than happy to answer any questions or show you the areas they worked in, There was no feeling of alienation as an intern as you were seen and respected as a permanent member of staff rather than 'just' a summer intern. This made the internship experience rewarding and enjoyable.
It was extremely well organised with excellent initial training held over the first week before I 'hit' the desk. There was also a range of social events organised throughout as well as a range of training opportunities offered during the internship which was also of high quality and well organised.
In terms of the training provided one on one by my line manager this was of excellent quality and a lot of time was taken to ensure understanding and any questions would be answered. There was also a range of relevant courses on offer to augment my knowledge which were also very good.

The role itself was very enjoyable but has in fact opened me up to other areas of interest that I am tempted to pursue within Banking, more specifically within Markets. In general though the prospect of future employment at UBS is extremely appealing due to the quality of the organisation and the friendly and welcoming environment it offers.
The Culture
There was an extremely good social scene amongst both my fellow interns as well as full time members of my team. On many occasions there were drinks and evenings out with my fellow interns and rather often there were drinks within my team as well as a Dinner/Drinks organised by my manager in my second to last wee. As before, in these situations I was treated as if I was a full time employee and not just an intern.
Being in London the cost of both living and socialising is inevitably high. However, it is certainly worth the extra costs due to the range of choices London offers and well as the vibrant lifestyle that comes with this. The high level of pay by UBS easily makes up for the cost of living in London.
Being in Broadgate within the City the nightlife surround my work place was fantastic meaning straight after work, wither with my team or fellow interns, we could enjoy casual drinks and/or food to wind down after the day. This is yet another benefit of working in the City of London.
There was a range of events offered both charitable and social thanks to the great outreach program ran by UBS as well as the great opportunities provided by my team. The level of non-work activities offered was great and has furthered the appeal of UBS to me, This I believe makes UBS stand out from other banks and financial institutions further making UBS an attractive Bank to work for.
