    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a very enjoyable experience working for the Bank over the 10 weeks. Everyone was really welcoming and I found my role very interesting. The people were great and I learnt so much that i didn't know across the 10 weeks. The internship overall was a fantastic introduction into working life and I can't speak highly enough of it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel very valued by the Colleagues. They welcomed me as an intern very nicely and made me feel very comfortable within the team I was in. I was able to join in with social activities but was also taken seriously in meetings and people were willing to listen to my views.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Manager was very good. She introduced me to the company very well, showing me the ropes. We were able to build up a good relationship over the 10 weeks and I don't think I could have asked for a better Line Manager. She was always trying to get me involved in various different activities and meetings and was very approachable and helpful.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the beginning of the internship, I was less busy, still getting used to the role and there were less tasks for me to be getting on with. However, as the internship went on, I became more and more busy and was able to get stuck into some lengthy tasks and help produce some good pieces of work which added value to the team.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility I was given increased over the 10 weeks, as you would expect. Initially, I wasn't expected to immediately have the knowledge but gradually I built up the understanding and towards the end of the internship, I was given more responsibility and was stretched and challenged which was very good. I think it worked perfectly and I was able to build my way up to having the responsibility of heading up some tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed some really strong skills that I hope to further develop following on from this internship. I think I will now go into the last year of my degree with the excitement of the potential to work for the bank. I think I can take forward some great organisational skills, as well as some developed communication skills which will help me in all walks of life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very good. It was a relaxed atmosphere where you could easily engage with Colleagues and ask for help but everyone was also respectful of when work had to be done. It was good fun though to get to know everyone and share some chat to break up the work a little bit. A very friendly atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall placement was very well organised, with everything all ready for me when I got here, such as my laptop, log in ID etc. It went very smoothly. Then throughout the internship, we were kept in the loop very regularly with the goings on and what was required of us. It was generally pretty clear of how we would be assessed and what the referral process would look like. It went very smoothly.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company allowed me to join in a couple of good face to face training sessions for example one on Personal Brand Training. They were very useful and it felt as though they were helping me as I went through the internship and they were happy to invest the time into helping me develop as well as other colleagues.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future job prospects I would hope are very appealing. I am really hoping to be able to develop further within the company and really hope I can land a graduate role. I think the organisation would be a great place to build a career and am very excited about the prospect of potentially being able to work here after University.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene. This involved a couple of leaving parties, as well as several football events. People were always very friendly and it was good to be able to talk to people outside of a work capacity and get to know them on a more personal level.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was free as I was able to live at home with my parents during the internship. The centre of Bristol can be quite expensive but there are lots of different thing you can get involved in and the price isn't so great that it would put you off going to events.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nighlife is good in Bristol. There are many different bars and clubs, especially along the harbourside in Bristol. You won't be bored going out in Bristol on a weekend. Overall, It's really good city for nightlife.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities. Part of this was down to my involvement in the Charity Challenge where as part of this I abseiled down Avon Gorge. But there were also football matches and tournaments to get involved in and various other fun activities to get involved in. There is a strong social scene within the Graduate and Intern programme.
