    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I generally enjoyed my internship at Barclays, it is a very active and rewarding time in which I learned a lot. It is a bit of a jump at the deep end at the start and it might take some time to get used to the working environment, but the teams are very supportive.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All inters have a line managers who is responsible for their professional development and their general internship experience. Additionally each intern has a buddy, usually a recent graduate, who they can trust. I have made a very positive experience and really like both my line manager and my buddy. As such, I feel like I received a lot of individual support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The internship is generally busy and there tend to be several tasks and objectives to fulfill every day. It might seem like a lot at the start, but also teaches interns how to organise themselves.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility you are given as a market intern is limited as you are not allowed to talk to clients. Yet, you support the team when creating presentations for example, where you are responsible for a fair amount of work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main skills I have developed are linked to efficiency, attention to detail and dicipline. Having also gained a good insight into the financial world, I feel like the internship is definitely useful in my degree studies and beyond.
