The Role
I enjoyed my placement at AZ, primarily due to the relaxed working environment and the freedom to be able to innovate within the individual project.
The internship is based around an independent project therefore work-based interactions with colleagues were limited. However, the importance of the project and how it fits in to future work was emphaised regularly.
Support and guidance was available whenever required, and colleagues with a relevant skillset were always willing to give advise on your project even if they were not a stakeholder in your project.
Busy with work always to be doing, but given the freedom to go about work at any pace. No deadlines.
Full responsibility to carry out the project in anyway that I desired. The project itself may not have carried much significance at this time due to the scoping nature of the project.
Highly relevant degree skills were used such as computer modelling, lab work and data analysis.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very relaxed with occasionall non-work chatter, colleagues were motivated by their work and desire to further knowledge.
Organisation prior to the placement starting was poor. Start dates, salaries and further information were not told until almost 6 months after the confirmation of the placement. Organisation after starting was good.
I was given the freedom to focus on aspects of the project that were of particular interest to me and my development. Encouraged to see other parts of the business and talk to graduates and other people of interest.

I intend to apply for the graduate scheme after exploring the nature of them whilst on placement.
The Culture
Yes, there were 17 summer students who regularly met up for social eevents
Housing is average, cost of living and socialising is pretty cheap (Macclesfield)
Macclesfield is better than expected, Manchester 20 minutes on the train is great.
Yes, I played football, cricket and did other activities.
